Hawks. Is this a good idea how to protect my puppy? Hello everyone, we live in OC and as everyone knows there's a lot of hawks out there. We have a balcony and I want to let my puppy out there now since weather's been warming up. We have a big table and a lot of chairs on the balcony so we spreaded them all over the balcony so it won't allow a hawk to land since it is so big and the space is very limited plus it gives our puppy somewhere to hide. ;) Any suggestions? I want him to be happy:dogwalk: and be outside when I'm gone because when he's inside I have to put him in his crate and I feel bad for locking him up:( |
Unless you can put a canapy up protecting your little one from being viewed from above he is not safe on your balcony. There is no way I would allow my Yorkie, cat or other small animal out on the balcony with a hawk flying around. They would become a sitting duck. A few member's have lost their little ones to preditor birds in the past. Better safe than sorry. What your planning on doing is still not safe. Once a hawk spots him he will get him, chairs or no chairs placed around. |
I agree with ARCHIE be careful, I just to go to a nice local park in her then I saw one:eek: I will have Phoebe on a leash all the time and hubby will be her shadow lol, but we stop going :( |

My Yorkie and I went to Fleet Farm and they had it but are sold out. The cost is $44.89 and it is called DELUX PUP UP PLAYPEN MEDIUM. The guy gave me a website for them but I can't find the playpen on it so I don't think he gave me the right one. |
Our Hawk Experience...Very Scary! One morning while my little Miss Abby was perched atop the back of an overstuffed chair which happens to be up against a sliding glass door...there was all of a sudden a huge BANG! I came running into the family room thinking it sounded like my son might have walked through the sliding glass door (that's how loud it was!) but, soon discovered that a Hawk had been sitting up on our neighbors roof spying on poor lil' Miss Abby. My son was actually observing this Hawk when he said it just swooped in for the kill...but, the dumb Hawk didn't realize there was a sliding glass door between them! Miss Abby weighs about 9 lbs but, with the wing span on that Hawk it could have probably easily snatched her up if she'd been lying on the lawn sunbathing herself. From then on...all our Yorkies are supervised while in the yard. They really hate it too... especially, when they need to do their #2 business (hahaha) and all eyes are on them:rolleyes: So, from our experience...I'd say NEVER leave your Yorkie unattended outside even on a balcony (covered or not). :aimeeyork are an easy snack for a Bird of Prey! |
