need a recomendation Our yorkie has never been groomed before and he has been getting a lot of mats and tangles in his hair. It is starting to get unmanageable for us to try to brush out so we are looking for a good and gentle groomer that will clean up his coat and also pluck out the hairs in his ears. This is going to be his first time and we had heard some horror stories about petco and do not want to risk anything happening to our baby. So if any of your yorkie owners know of a good groomer in the Southbay, Torrance area please let us know. Thank you. |
I don't know your area at all, but I'm sure someone can help you find just the right groomer. I've always done my own grooming since I'm not comfortable with leaving my dogs anywhere. If you invest in a slicker brush it will be so well worth it. It's the only thing that will get the mats out. You also need a really good conditioner. I mix three different things together that work perfectly and the daily brushing is a breeze. You can try rolling the ear hair up (tiny bit at a time) around a Q-Tip and quickly yank or you can buy the ratchet. It's what I use. If your leaving the coat to grow, then all you need to do is the trimming at the feet, ears and maybe the anal area. It's so easy to do at home and saves quite a bit of time and money. |
I live in Encino. Your Avatar says you live in Burbank? If so, I absoloutely love my groomer. I go over the hill every two weeks to West Los Angeles to have Lucy groom and she's the best. I found her when I saw a beautiful Yorkie in a departments store with her mommy and asked where she gets her groomed. If you are willing to to to West LA I'd be happy to recommend them. |
Thank you for the great information, but could you explain what a slicker brush is and where I can get one? |
slicker brush 1 Attachment(s) hello, here is a picture of what a slicker brush looks like, its like a brush. i use one myself. works well. you have to do it often, after a while, just 5 min a day and the mattes go away! :D |
:) Hi Joyce, We take Boogies to California Groomin' in Culver City, which is absolutely the best place to go. Why? At most, there are only two employees who do the grooming, one of which is the owner, Shirley. I can go on and on about how great they are, but instead I'll summarize it with three facts then provide you with a link to her biography: 1. California Groomin' has two veteran groomers VS. a large facility with a revolving staff that can lead to less accountability, and room for errors or shotty workmanship. 2. It's a place you'd feel comfortable leaving your precious one for a day. Soft jazz music playing in the background, and a tropical design within the store. http://californiagroomin.com/about.html The only caveat I can think of is that she gets VERY busy, so a reservation is usually required. -Boogies |
Get some De Tangler and a De Matter, and some treats. What I would do is wash with Puppy shampoo, blow dry, spray detangler and use the dematter to remove the mats, then brush. I brush Chloe before bed takes about 2 minutes. |
BTW Good Groomer is Bow Wow Boutique on Pier in Hermosa Beach. Best groomers around! |
