New yorkie owner Last month we brought home Dixie - she is now two days shy of 5 months. She developed kennel cough as soon as we brought her home and it was really hard to get her to take the antibiotics so we resorted to putting it on finely chopped chicken and beef. Well, now she won't eat dog food at all. In the process of trying to switch her back she lost weight (she's only 2.5 pounds) and I didn't want her to lose any more so I have been feeding her the ground raw meat with cottage cheese. She picks out the veggies (carrots, sweet potatoes). My parents always fed their boxer and their poms raw meat and veggies and they lived very long healthy lives. Do any of you feed your yorkies raw food and if so, how much is a serving and what about the veggies? Do they need them? Thanks for any tips! |

Hi there! i have a male yorkie whos been with me for over a year now. he's been getting all kinds of sickness's like vomitting, diareah & losing weight because sometimes my brother sneeks him human food & he wouldnt eat his own dog food anymore. the best thing for your puppy is to take her to the vet. They would probably give you something called "Nutri-Cal" which would make her gain a little more weight. & to help her eat regular dog food they would probably give u some pills. I also had a hard time giving my yorkie his medication but what i did was crush the pills to powder & mix it into regular soft moist dog food from the can. The vet gave me a medicated canned dog food to give to my yorkie & i worked. He started gaining more weight & feeling more healthier within a week. Now he's eating regular dog food (Science Diet) I hope this works for you. :] |
Sory your baby is sick. My vet will give me liquid meds and I just syringe it in their mouths. Ask your vet if you can get it in liquid form. |
I have never given any of my dogs raw meat. They usually get their dog food, and "treats" of course. Not sure if any other person has done that??? Darlene :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa |

I feed my two little men dry food and only certain treats. Occasionally they get eggs and plain cooked chicken becuase I have heard they are great supplements for coat and eyes. Sorry I am not more help. Welcome to the site. This is a great source of information so I am sure you will find an answer. ;) |
I buy Steve's frozen dog food (it has vegetables mixed in with it) and mix it with kibble (Royal Canin Puppy or baby Mini bites) and heat it in the microwave for 1.5 min. Let it cool and feed it to my four Yorkies - the fussiest eaters on the planet. For breakfast, the get Nature's balance sausage, grated (like cheese) and mixed with kiddle. It is my goal to get them all back on kibble eventually, as that is the best food for them. Good luck. Nutrical is a good idea. It comes in a tube - squirt some on your finger and she will lick it off. Give her about a a half inch a couple of times a day. |
raw is great for them... and if taht is what she is eating... GO WITH IT!!! haha... PM Kalina82 and she can help you more.. you need to suppliement when you feed raw |
Hi, welcome to YT! When feeding a raw diet they don't need the fruits and veggies tho some people give them anyway. the raw chop meat is a good way to start feeding raw prey model but to make it 'balanced' you need to add meaty bones and some organs. If on a proper prey model diet you do not need to supplement tho some will give vit e and fish oil, and any joint supplements their dog needs.
