Youngtown's Yorkies Oakdale, California Review  :thumbdown Don't every buy from Young town's Yorkie The Breeder's Name is Donna Young from Oakdale, California. I bought a puppy from her with open registration, and intended to breed the puppy but the puppy had retained his testicles and i've contacted the breeder about her contract and she refuses to do anything about it because the contract says only genetic problems that cause a health risk. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't retaing testicles a Health RisK?....It's not like i'm going to give the puppy back, I'm too attached already but She should at least pay me the difference for the puppy shouldn't She? The agreement was that the puppy was $800 w/ limited registration and $1,200 for open registration. Now shouldn't she pay me back since because of the genetic defect my little boy has to be neutered. It seems that i may not be able to do anything So I'm JUst spreding the Words DONNA YOUNG from Oakdale, California, BAD BREEDER! :thumbdown |
You should get a written statement from your vet and make sure the vet states that retained testicles are a hereditary/genetic defect. Surely with your contract, this should be covered. Fax a copy or send a copy certified mail and make sure you keep the original. In that letter, ask what you would like (refund of difference). $400 isn't much but if it's worth it to you, contact a lawyer or file in small claims courts (which you can do on your own for under $75.) |
She should definately refund the difference since he can't be bred (which is what the extra $400 was for). What a bad breeder. |
I would say she should refund the difference in price since you can not use him for breeding. You can also contact your attorney generals office and file a compliant. |
The first statment is great, I would get a letter from the vet. I think you should get the difference. good luck and keep us posted. |
Ivy, How old is your puppy? Sometimes they can take awhile to decend if one is tiny or small. If one wants to breed - it is also important to buy an older pup - 5-6 months youngest, so you have a better idea of what you are getting. Anytime one buys a younger pup under the age of 5 months, you are taking a risk. Depending on your puppies age - he may still have time for them to come down. T. |
I think $400 is a lot...enough to make me go to trouble to get it back if I were in your shoes. Good luck with that. |

Did you buy the dog for companion or for breeding? It sounds like breeding, which is fine. But everyone should remember that you take a chance when they buy a younger puppy - with looks, confirmation, bite, etc... including 2 testicles to drop. Ivy - I totally understand your frustrations and wanting a perfect dog, but there just is no guarantee with something like this when you buy a younger pup. You are about the same age as my daughter and you learn as you go. And thank you yorkiemom1970 for confirming what I said about the testicles - still have time to drop. I have been breeding yorkies since 1979, so I should know something by now. So testicles are just one more thing that a buyer should make sure that is in their contract if they want both testicles to be there later in life - if not have it added to the contract and if the seller won't - go to someone else or buy a pup that is older and this way you are sure they are there. You or the seller has no way to guarantee that they will forsure drop when a pup is young (puppy) a 12 week old puppy is just too young for a seller to guarantee that they will drop. I have seen young pups have them down one day and up another day. I have also seen a 10 month old just get his to drop finally. T. |
