Starlight Yorkies - what is up with their eyes? Hi all, I haven't even looked for reviews on this breeder, because I don't plan on getting a puppy from them (I have a breeder for all future pups). However, I'd be interested to see other peoples' reviews just out of curiosity. http://www.starlightsyorkies.com/index.html I can't help but notice that the eyes on all of their puppies and even their sires and dams seem strange looking to me. Perhaps I'm just not "experienced" or as "knowledgeable" as other Yorkie fans, but something doesn't seem right about their eyes to me; I can't put a finger on it. They just don't look like Yorkies to me...but they are AKC. O.o Maybe I'm the crazy one. Can someone explain to me what would cause Yorkies' eyes to look like that in ALL their dogs?? Does anyone have a dog/puppy from this breeder that doesn't have 'different' eyes like those ones? There are several red flags on this breeder's site (in my opinion) but I wanted some more input and opinions. |
I think the eyes look set too far apart and they are kind of protruding. They remind me very much of the eyes on a pug or some French bulldogs. Definitely not what I picture when I think of the standard Yorkie. -C |
Most are huge and buggy looking for one thing as they are photoshopped for size, width apart and probably the muzzles for a foreshortened look also, though much of it is likely real from the Chi-mixing done generations back. It is the whole appearance of the dogs that are "off". That one puppies eyes do look very hazy and blue-ish. Poor little things don't even look like Yorkshire Terriers but like cartoons of Yorkies. If this is the breeder I think it is, I would not even consider buying one of those poor puppies. |
If you scroll all the way down, they are advertising 'applehead Yorkies'. This is a skull deformity and I would imagine that hydrocephalis often comes with it, which can give a pop-eyed look. |

I actually love that look. I think they're cute, small ears, small nose and round eyes. It's not usually to an extreme though, some sites do photoshop. There's a few members on this board that have that type and they are frickin' adorable! However, I've read some complaints about Starlight Yorkies. THAT would be what would bother me. Elite petite puppy, FC's precious yorkies, Blue Monday exclusives, those are all breeders that I haven't read anything negative about and have small breeding programs. Still don't know if they're reputable though. |
I wanted to post again because obviously I'm not encouraging this type of breeding. Most of the "applehead" sites are photoshopped horror stories. People are also buying smaller puppies that are waaaay younger than they're advertised as or are sick. However, there ARE some very small muzzle, small ear, wider(but not to an extreme) set eyed yorkies owned by members on this board. It's just a different look to a yorkie, like some yorkies are darker or lighter. Those are the ones that I find attactive, not the "fake stuffed animal" ones because that's just ridiculous and they're not real. There was a member who had a little girl named Ava who was just darling. |
I also noticed that if she sold a dog that was over a year old, there was no guarantee on it at all. Some of those babies look very odd. |

Those eyes are downright creepy looking with the whites of the eyes showing in so many of the pics. |

Creepy doesn't even begin to explain what that is. It could just be the alterations on the site but doubtful. Definitely not traditional Yorkie characteristics. I would never buy an Apple Head or what ever you want to call it. They look ill and sickly. |
I agree the eyes all look photoshopped to me too. |
They do look very weird...not my idea of a beautiful Yorkie. I agree that it looks like Chihuahua eyes. I have never heard of apple head. That is a new one for me. Glad I have a regular headed Yorkie! :) |
Definitely look odd to me too... Lots of red flags. |
