HOUSTON TX VETS - My personal feelings Since we have so many Texas members here - I thought I'd share my vet. I highly reccomend Dr. Hawke at the Highway 6 Animal Hospital in Sugar Land TX. I've tried different vets now for 20 years in Houston and they are the best in my opinion - I make a 45 minute drive just to see them... rather than go to vets close to my home. This facility is NOT your average clinic/hospital - it's a VET Practice in a house built for animals...the Doctors will spend time talking to you about anything. They also offer boarding and they have a whole upstairs dedicated to the comfort of the pets they board. As far as treatment - they care... and actually sit down and explain things......They also will follow up with aftercare - I've found the people at this Vet Practice to be the most personal and experienced out of all the vets I've been to....and after 3 Cockers and 2 yorkies - I've been to the vet often in these past 10 years. As far as the trust factor - they have mine. Now...on the subject of Groomers in Houston? :( I have none to share as I have YET to find a good groomer in Houston and believe me - I've tried ....I learned to do my own grooming rather than trust anyone with my girls...one day I may try again but I haven't had very good luck any so far - at least non I can refer to anyone. Hope this information will help someone who may be looking for a good vet in the Houston area. |
I am thrilled to actually have someone give great information on here,I wish I lived in Texas to try out those Vets you recommended, and I really thought this is what this forum was all about, not slamming others as I have seen lately, thank you, I wish others would also recommend thier Vets, I live in Logan Utah and I am thrilled with Bridgerland Hosp..Dr Paul Sanders is a jewel,I had nothing but positive care from him, and my yorkies great him with love...gee...its a mutual admeration society...thanks again |

You should share him in a new Thread...I bet there are other members who would love to know this - It IS great when we have a vet we trust - I think many people have bad experiences and this is a good place to share positive input on vets all across the country.... |
Villette, My vet, Dr. Bill Eikenhorst has a practice here in Brenham (his main practice) but he also has one in Houston. As far as I know, most of his personal "practicing" is done in Brenham. The reason I mention him though is because of his groomer that comes there twice a week. She used to live in Houston and traveled here those days but I think she's moved to Brenham now. She may still be doing grooming at the Houston office though. I absolutely love her. She has had many Yorkies herself in the past and has done an absolutely perfect job with Tatum. If you want, I can find out for you...... |
Thank gals for giving your thumbs up on these folks. That will be of help to all those who live in the area and are looking for a vet or want to make a change  |
When I lived in Katy/Houston (just moved 6 months ago to Fort Worth), I would drive out to Sealy to Dr. Phil Gorman (spelling may wrong) at the Sealy Vet Clinic. He is wonderful, my family has been going to him since his opened he pratice when I was a kid living in Sealy. We have tried other vets in the Katy area, but we felt that cared more about money than the animals themselves. |
Temple Texas... I know this is kind of far from houston, but have you guys heard of Dr. Grosney ? Many people recommended him and I went there a few times and they were just really nice. |
This is just good information - Texas is such a big state I love hearing about GOOD vets listed in this thread - It's going to be really helpful when someone new is looking in these areas. |

My neighbors just took their dog in there and they felt the same way about him - and he used to be a great vet. |
Another Houston YTer recommended Greenway Animal Hospital (on Richmond near Kirby). I get my new little girl yorkie on December 28th, and I am taking her there for her check up! Thanks for the extra info though. It seems like there are quite a few of us from Houston, and all the extra helpful recommendations are really appriciated! :) |
I think it just horrible when a vet goes from caring about animals to caring more about the money. Now that I live in North Richland Hills (near Fort Worth), I was a little scared to go to a new vet. I have been taking Rocky to vet clinic in Hurst, and the vet there is the greatest. The Wednesday before Thanksgiving, I took Rocky in because he was vomiting. The vet want to do a X-ray, which of course I was going to do, but really did not have the spare money and X-rays cost a little bit. The vet waved the X-ray fee, because he understood it is very close to the holidays and everyone is short money this time of year, but he wanted to make sure Rocky did not eat anything he should have not. No many vets will do that. Don't ya'll agree? |
