Yet another groomer horror story.... 2 Attachment(s) I had Kaji groomed by a "professional" after ruining his hair at home. The grooming took place on Thursday. When I called they told me their availability was wide open and I can choose whatever time I wanted. I picked him up and his haircut was horrible!!! It's completely uneven everywhere. He has a faux hawk on top of his head and nothing was blended. It looks like a rushed hair cut. I didn't think much of it, as I don't know this place for quality cuts. This is the second time, as in the second chance I was giving this place. I go in to complain today (sunday) only to find there is no manager or anyone that I can talk to. The girl at the cash register calls the owner and manager, and to try to get the ball rolling. She agrees with me that Kaji has a bad hair cut. It looked like the person was rushing and she agreed, it looked like something I could have done at home. The owner eventually calls back and tries to minimize what happened. He asked I send him pictures, which I did. I'm waiting on a call back. How is it that they managed to give my baby a rushed hair cut by an experienced groomer of 7 years? (per the owner's information) It doesn't make sense!!! The cut itself is awful, but really, I went in with low expectations based on past experiences. This was a "reset" cut so I can start over and let Kaji's hair grow out again. I didn't expect them to cut him and then not notice!!! FYI: This place is K9Loft in Echo park (on Sunset near Alvarado) in Los Angeles. DO NOT GO THERE!!! Attachment 365289 Attachment 365290 |
Poor baby. :( I hope they at least try to make this right with you. They should refund your money. Once again, I am so thankful for my groomer. I need to buy her a gift to let her know how wonderful she is!!! |
I don't usually go to this place. I usually wait for my mobile groomer. Her undivided attention is on Kaji the entire time. Since I messed up his hair, and he was going to be shaved down anyway, how hard could that be for a them to do? I was embarrassed to keep him with half a face and I didn't think they would hurt him. |
You would have thought they could have handled that. Did you hear back from the owner? |

So sorry Kaji's haircut turned out bad. I feel bad for him - his poor ears. Just wondering if you've heard anything yet? Hopefully they will give you a full refund. |
Nope. I have not heard back yet. My dad won't let me go back either. He says to just let it go and be more careful on who I trust my baby to. |
Update: The owner called me right now. We had a nice long chat. He seemed much more understanding today than he did on Sunday. Maybe he had a rough day and my complain was just icing on the cake? He heard me out today, and really it was a pleasant conversation. I really have to say kudos to him for putting in the extra effort and giving the customer that one on one time. I really truly appreciated that. I did not get my refund like I wanted but we compromised and he gave me store credit for the amount I spent on Kaji's horrible cut. I'm completely satisfied with that. They're the only store that carries Orijen near me and Kaji's gotta eat. :) I had to wait for it a bit, but the owner of K9 Loft really put in the effort to try to make me happy. Next time I pick up scissors and try to trim Kaji myself, I'll remember this and tell myself to just wait for Reyna (my mobile groomer). Edited to add, Kaji's ears are worse today. He has one small open sore on his ear. The hair plucking they did caused really irritated ears and he's been scratching which makes things worse. Thank goodness I have my Kiss-e-collar from Bo! |
awww your poor baby. im glad though you got some satisfaction in the end. |
I completely feel your pain. You might remember my rant before when Princess got a true hack job & even her privies nicked. It took a lot of time, research & visiting several times before I found someone I'm beginning to trust. I trust her enough to do the job humanely & effectively, but I'm still prepared for disaster. I'd ask your vet if you can put antibiotic cream on his ear or something since bacteria tends to grow there anyways. Give Kaji extra lovin' he may very well know something's not right. |
I am so sorry to see the pictures of Kaji and hope his hair grows back in soon! I remember when Romeo had his 2nd grooming -- late that night was I was scratching his head I noticed a bump. On closer inspection it was actually a puncture on the top of his head near his right ear. I immediately thought of calling the groomer but knew that I'd only get my BP up because she would never admit it. I have since changed groomers and Romeo loves his stylist. He sees Rachel every 3 weeks for "maintenance" and I bathe him at home every week. Rachel treats Romeo as if he were her own and will cuddle with him until I pick him up. She takes all but 90 mins on his grooming!!! |
Poor guy! I don't know how they managed to nick his ears like that? I'm inexperienced, but I groom my two, and I haven't ever cut them... I'm glad that he put in the effort to make it right though. So you can use that store credit for food right? I wouldn't allow Kaji to be groomed there again! |

I'm glad the owner called back. Poor Kaji. I am taking Cali and Roxie to be groomed Wednesday and I am so nervous. I have used this girl on and off for 20 years but I am still nervous. |
awwee they even hurt his ear :( I love my groomer here at the beach. Sorry you had a bad expierence. |
That is awful. I'm sure the owner was hoping that you would have cooled off after a few days of waiting for a call back. I still think he owes you a refund but as long as you can buy food there I guess it's better than nothing. It is an awful thing but some states do not require that "groomers" attend an accredited school and be licensed. It's a shame because in many places someone can become a self proclaimed groomer even though they have hardly a clue about what they are doing. I suppose it does not take a lot of skill to give a dog a bath but a true hair cut that does not involve simply shaving the coat off does require some know how. Being able to calm an anxious pet is a skill in it's self. There are just so many reasons to choose a groomer so very carefully. |
I'm glad the owner finally called you back - though I don't know why he waited so long to call you back... anyway, at least he gave you a store credit. |
