I do not know these breeders. However, we are plagued w puppymills in PA. In fact, it has gotten national attention about how puppymill ridden we are, I am sorry to say. Conversely, we do have some very good YTCA breeders here too.

I would worry that these ppl breed multiple breeds, do not show pics of the parents, and use the term "T-cup".

I do not have a yorkie, but I do have a 2.5 year old Maltese that has had medical issues since DAY ONE. He came home with pneumonia, then his aggression issues, bladder and kidney stones, and now he has been diagnosed with liver shunts after a very scary episode of H.E.

This liver shunt disease is HEREDITARY and should be tested for as soon as the puppies are born. This is my first dog, and I had only wish I knew about this sad disease.

Basically the McDowell's are either breeding or purchasing dogs from mills (Which i think is the case since they are in a puppy mill area), just to make a quick buck. They do not care about the health of your future puppy or the stress of its owners.

My dog will be undergoing surgery next week. He's been suffering for 2.5 years and it is not fair. Horrible "breeders"!!! do not support them.

It is a puppymill operation.

I would pass on them and go to the YTCA website and find a wonderful reputable breeder. That one is a puppy mill

Are you all 100% certain they fall under "puppy mill"?

Three of my yorkies are from them. I thought they were more of a "backyard breeder" type but I wouldn't classify it as a puppy mill.

Heather and Jason are a bit odd perhaps, maybe not the most personable people, but the conditions looked acceptable every time I was there. In fact, I absolutely love the look of their yorkies.

I got my first yorkie from them, Oscar, a few years ago. I got him at 6 months. He was the runt of the litter and not at all socialized. But he's fine and hasn't had any problems. He became socialized over the years. A few months later I got his brother Bruce. Bruce is absolutely perfect in every way. He's a big yorkie, about 15 pounds. But I actually like the bigger ones. I got Daphney in October. She's wonderful. The only problem, and I don't really think this is a serious problem, was after about 3 weeks with her she developed kennel cough. Was it because of the breeder? Perhaps. But she could have contracted it outside. My boys didn't have it, nor did they catch it from her. But she was put on medicine and good as new in a week or so. No big deal. My vet did not seem concerned that it was a breeder issue.

This saddens me that Heather and Jason are considered to be a puppy mill. I don't know them other than meeting them years ago through an ad, and we don't keep in touch or anything. I send pictures occasionally to Heather and she always replies and loves to hear that her dogs are loved. I honestly just thing they are "hobby" breeders, not puppy mill breeders.

I purchased my Yorkie from Jason and after reading this I'm completely heartbroken.

My Yorkie is 10 months today and about 11 lbs. Everyone keeps telling me he looks more like a silky terrier so I became curious. Did a little research and came across this post. When I purchased my puppy, Enzo, we had a very rough few months. He wouldn't sleep and had severe diarrhea. The vet did an overall check up on him and said that he had campylobacter, which is very common in puppies, but is healthy other than that. Treated him with some probiotics and now he's great.

My little guy is the most loving, happy and energetic pup you'd ever meet. I do not support puppy mills at all and it make me sick to my stomach that I might have purchased him from one. But then I think about what he may have been living in and the life he could have had. This makes me so happy I took him home that day. He eats organic dog food, sleeps in bed with me and enjoys play time at dog parks.

Now I just worry that if he is from a mill we may have health issues in our future. If anyone has purchased a puppy from them please let me know any issues your facing with your fur baby.

Kristi--if you are worried about health issues in the future, you should get pet insurance. Be sure to read what is covered/what is not covered under the pet insurance. I'm not sure whether or not you have to pay a bit more to cover genetic issues as well, but it is WORTH IT. If your pup does indeed end up developing genetic problems, it COULD be covered under the pet insurance which would save you TONS of money. Hope this helped!! There are tons of threads on YT about pet insurance. Just do a Google search for "pet insurance yorkietalk" and tons of threads will pop up.

I bought my beloved Rudy, a yorkie from them 7 1/2 years ago. I did a ton of research and didn't find anything to suggest that they were a puppy mill. After, buying Rudy I had major suspicions and now have read other reports that they are indeed a puppy mill!!! They have a big barn that has dogs of all different breeds and couldn't produce any papers about Rudy's parents to me. I just had to go through putting my 7-year-old yorkie to sleep after he was diagnosed with an inoperable cancerous brain tumor! It was as I was cleaning out his stuff that I came across the information about the McDowells and I know that I owe it to Rudy and all other pet owners and dogs to get the word out so that they can no longer treat animals this way. I have contacted the Humane Society and I am hoping something will be done. PLEASE GET THE WORD OUT!

I have knock on wood had good experiences but yes, I sensed something was off. Why? The first time we met at a place they said we could which was the parking lot of a huge rest area. We saw people of all kinds coming to pick up puppies. I saw a Yorkie that was so tiny it did not look like it could even be old enough to be going home.

We got a Maltese and thankfully vet checked her to be fine and a great dog. I was concerned that my puppies papers showed she did not come from them but from another place out in Ohio I think which raised huge red flags to me. They also sent their Sister in law to deliver all these pups since I believe Heather was pregnant at the time. Any way I called and when I was concerned Heather gave me the name of a woman who purchased multiple Yorkies from her. I called the woman and she admitted she was apprehensive in the beginning but has had nothing but great experience with them. I however wanted to talk to the breeders of my pup who they said was their friend. They did give me his number but he was rude and he said something like, "Is your dog healthy, do you have a problem?"

I was already in love with my pup and she was healthy. about 4 years later we went to buy a westie and however we ended up finding one of their ads and they had a pup. My daughter and I drove to them this time and Jason met us with his children in their garage. He had a pen where he brought in several pups for us to see.

I questioned him somewhat on how he has so many breeds and he was getting them from a barn. It was nothing like a puppy and parrot mill I bought a B & G Macaw from in Florida where that establishment was closed down right after. I saw the pups and ended up taking not only the westie but another Maltese. Again I am blessed the pups have excellent temperament, health and are very good looking dogs with no noticeable faults. However I was constantly looking for info on whether this was a mill and could never find out one way or another for sure.

Many people who bought from them had good experience like myself. Also, I even contacted one of those puppy mill investigators and could not get an answer from that. I was also told they have a lot of family members that breed and they cross promote each other's pups so that is why it seems they have so many breeds I was told. I think there is something going on but I do not have proof.

When I really started checking them out I was just sick. Many people reporting puppies sick from day one, puppies that have died, other shady things.
Thank God my little girl had a healthy Vet check. So far seems healthy. She is high strung though.
McDowell's are just not on the up & up. Very shady!!!!!!

First Litter
 

My silk hair Yorkie is having her first litter she is 2 years and 7 months old. Her due date is around July 10th. She is up to date with her shots and I spoil my babies. We live in Philadelphia and once they are born I will post them on my yorkie talk page.

I got a little 'Maltipoo" from Jason in February. With in a few weeks she was looking more Terrier. No one could see any poodle in her. I had a very reputable DNA test done. Results- no poodle. She is Maltese & Yorkie mix. He even sent me pictures of the Mom (white toy poodle) & Dad ( Maltese).
I contacted him. He is very arrogant. Acts like he did nothing wrong Told me if I am so dissatisfied to bring the "Dog" back.
Im astounded with this person. After researching more I found out alot- selling sick puppies and puppies that have died. Makes me sick & very sad.
I would never recommend him. He breeds too many types of dogs- Pure Breeds & Designer Mixes.

I purchased a Yorkie puppy from Jason McDowell and couldn't be more HAPPY.
Priscilla was bursting with energy and potty trained really quickly. She had great vet visit and was socialized which was super important- they even did the next shot free for us.
My experience was so positive I decided prissy needed a friend and bought another Yorkie female and now my "family" is complete.
