RUSSELLS YORKSHIRE TERRIERS

If your dog gets sick, they won't stand behind their puppy. They'll blame it all on you as being an irresponsible owner.

If you do, make sure you walk out of the vet's office with your contract.

Oh wow, lots of red flags on the website, for example they say,

Tiny Toy= 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 lbs.
Toy= 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 lbs.
Standard= 6 1/2 lbs. and Up


Yorkies are a toy breed, and standard is 6 pounds and below, all these categories they've made are just to appeal to customers, they have no way of knowing full grown size. Also, beware of breeders with credit card payments on their websites, good breeders will not sell a dog to just anyone with the cash or credit card. It's scary that they say puppies are "Rabies Vaccinated", I thought puppies were not suppose to be vaccinated until they were older. Another warning sign is meeting at the vet office, it sounds like they don't want you to see the kennel, and this is always a HUGE red flag. Always go to the house, if the breeder isn't comfortable having you at the house, they shouldn't feel comfortable selling you a puppy.

You are right Nancy, rabies is not given until a pup is older. However, the standard reads not to exceed 7 pounds.

I would also suggest to file a rip off report. And of course with the better business report. There are also lemon laws in the state of Florida.

I can see all those things myself now. I didn't notice when I bought the puppy. It's definately been a lesson well learned.

My issue with the breeder has been resolved. After being reassured by the veterinarian that they are indeed conscientious breeders I feel that my statement above should be retracted.

I wish to do them no harm. My message can't be deleted as I requested. They were unaware of the changes in the wording of the law and after reading it they promptly refunded the purchase price.

Many breeders will give a person a hard time until they realize the person can tell others about their experience. A good breeder wouldn't have needed this nudge. I have a problem with a vet that allows breeders to meet at the office to sell their dogs.

The law should have nothing to do with operating in a reputable manner. It has to do with ethics. The California Lemon law is geared to high volume breeders, but it should keep other breeders on their toes too. There are so many things know about the responsibility of being a breeder.

Since they met you at the vets, it leads me to believe these people are Puppy Mills. There is a possibility that the vet has a vested interest in their relationship with said breeder.

Although, your issue has been resolved, the unsuspecting public should be aware of situations such as this. We as a forum need to continue educating them and make them aware of all avenues that are available to them.
