Hi I am new to this site and I was reading a thread about this pet place called puppy love, and unfortunately I feel like I got scammed $1400.00 from them big time. I bought Bailey on September 29, 2009 from them they wanted me to take him to their vet but I said I would take him to my own. I took him and the doc said he has an irregular heartbeat so he needs an EKG and only 1 testicial has dropped. the vet had called the owner while I was standing right there and told him the problems and the guy Sean had nothing to say, then 2 seconds later Sean called me and left a voice message that he was doing a follow up call on my dog and to see how he was adjusting to his new home NEVER MENTIONING THE FACT THAT THE VET HAD JUST CALLED HIM..... Also it said on the site We sell only AKC purebred puppies. By focusing only on puppies, we have become puppy experts. On Baileys papers it says NOTHING about being AKC it only says ACA which appaerntly means nothing.I should have been a lot smarter when I bought a puppy but I admit I went in blind and now its too late I love this little guy to death and I will do what ever it take to take care of him but I just want to know how can people get away with somthing like this... Thanks for letting me vent :(

There are so many red flags on this page..i dont even know where to begin. Unfortunately whats done is done . Was there a health contract? You may be able to get your money back...however, the only way would probably be to return the pup. And since you've already said that you're attached to him...i say live and learn and love him with all your heart. Congrats on your new baby. Welcome to YT. You should browse thru alot of this forum....you will learn LOTS AND LOTS!! :D

Sorry that you had a bad experience. But on a Positive note you have a wonderful little furbaby that you love and will give you soooo much love and happiness....

You should look up the puppy lemon law in Connecticut. You could actually take the store to court and sue for the vet bills, which will include the neutering since his testicle did not drop. AND, I just watched a segment on Judge Judy in which a woman bought a Yorkie and it was not registered AKC but some off registrtion like your boy and Judge Judy, said that when you buy a pure bred you expect the dog to be registered with the AKC and if not then the papers are worth less. She awarded the buyer almost a whole refund due to the paper fact as well as the dog being 14 pounds full grown and having curly hair rather then straight. She said that the owner misrepresented the dog by not telling the buyer that he was not AKC registered. I personally would file court papers. I will only cost you court costs at best should you not win. Elaine

You can find the puppy lemon laws summarized by state here. Unfortunately, puppies bought from pet shops in Connecticut are only covered for 15 days, including genetic conditions.

Puppy Lemon Law States

Pet stores get their puppies from puppy mills so multiple genetic health issues like your Bailey has are pretty common unfortunately.

Don't they have a pet insurance policy? I purchased a pup from them a few years ago and at the time all the pups were guaranteed. I'm sure you don't want to return the pup, but they did have a return policy at the time of our purchase.

I don't know about their return policy or if they have one but would like to state; Do you know what they do with a pup that is returned? It is cheaper for a Pet Store to give you a new pup, and put the sick pup down or send it back to the mill where it came for for credit then to treat the dog (or) they just resell it to another unsuspecting customer. In reality anyone that actually returns their sick dog to a pet store has given it a death sentence. The petstores pay so little for these dogs they sell so high that by treating the dog the store loses money and this is all about money.

I was wrong in saying DON'T THEY, because I know they do. The reason I posed the question was because Puppy Love has a policy that you can take the pup to the vet and have the bills refunded if submitted to their insurance company, up to $500. I am not looking to stir the pot here, just making a suggestion about a place I know something about.
As all Yorkies are not created equal, I believe all yorkie stories are not created equal.

As all Yorkies are not created equal, I believe all yorkie stories are not created equal.
As someone posted CT only has a 15 day Lemon Law on pups. IF the person went right to her vet and the vet deemed him unsalable, then she should be able to recoup some money on his bills. The fact Puppy Love has this policy up to $500, may also be an option too. I think the OP may want to research a little and also contact Puppy Love regarding the issue to see if it can be resolved amicably. I would personally, with anyone put everything in writing and send it registered mail. This is always best to do - to keep a paper trail. I won't comment on Puppy Love in itself as I've never dealt with them, and do not know them. My post above was to pet stores in general.

No matter what I do not plan on returning him I love him way too much its just I that I am more upset than anything else I want to know how they get away with somthing like this I know nothing is perfect but NONE of Baileys problems were on the medical records and it just seems so sneaky and underhanded. :(

I'd suggest you file a report with the Better Business Bureau. It looks like other complaints have been filed against them and they have resolved them to protect their standing with the BBB.

What a cute little guy.

It seems like he was examined by your vet about 5 or so weeks ago. Did you get the EKG done or have a recent exam to see if his heartbeat is still irregular & if his testical dropped (sometimes they drop in time & sometimes not)?

He is adorable!:) How is he doing now and how old is he? Sometimes these little ones grow out of early problems. I'm sure Bailey had you at Hello!

He had the EKG and will have to wear a device to monitor his heartbeat for 48 hours also the testicle has not dropped yet and I am just concerned that the surgery will be worse since they have to go find it :(..... but he is a really great baby he is already paper trained and does not really bark unless necessary, he loves to to on someone's lap or wrapped in a blanket, this is my first dog and I cant believe I waited so long to get one................... Thank you for the advice and caring words its really a nice reference to have .....

Sean, I've received your numerous emails. I did try to send you a cordial reply and to ask you to please stop emailing me but, my mail does not go through. It comes up that "The AOL Member I am trying to reach is not accepting mail from my account." It's easy to harrass someone when they cannot contact you back. Since, I cannot send you an email to ask you to please cease from contacting me or sending me any mail and since you come on here regularly to read these posts I am posting publicly to make it known that I do not wish to have any further contact with you. Anymore contact will be considered harrassment and I will have to notify authorities.

I do not know you. I do not know this girl. Anything I posted was general and not directed to your Pet Store. By your own admissions this girl is young and inexperienced and ALL I was trying to do is lead her to some links that may help her to recoup any vet bills she has. Decending testicle you are right in most cases is not a big deal, however this dog is on a heart monitor so evidently there must be more going on with his health. She paid $1400 for him and now your pissed over her posts and what she said so you say you won't help her. You told me to feel free to post your emails on YT. I'm not going to do that. This is not a forum problem this an issue between a girl who bought a dog in good faith and now has vet bills.

I repeat this is not my fight I just tried to help a young girl out. You however, targeted me and have not left me alone starting in December when you wrote to me and wrote and I quote "Carefull what you say I am not that slow. This guy has been harrassing you for a year?? :eek: Ohhhhhhhh my happy butt would have called the authorities LONNNNNNNGGGGG ago!! I hope you kept copies of every email. Id put a restraining order out on this guy...he seems like a wackjob!

Oh my goodness I am so sorry that this has happened to you Elaine he really sounds like a crazy man and I am sorry that he emailed you because of my post I didnt mean for anyone to get in trouble especially by a nutcase I was just looking for some advice and some feedback on what i should do :confused::confused::confused:

I cant believe this guy "sean" from puppylove had the balls to contact any one in this forum when thanks to his miss guidance now there is a puppy in distress & a new worried owner.

I'm so glad i havent had to deal with people like this in the past, if there is something wrong with a puppy purchased and the breeder her some heart the least he can do is try to help the new owner & not threaten users from a forum who are just concerned and trying to help!!!...

This store he runs is crossed out of my list for good and for my friends who purchase yorkies & any one who asks me about where to get one.. believe me this place will not be in my list of places to recommend!

Thats the beauty of America, theres internet, research can be made & people do find out about places... i think most business now that the economy is so bad is done by word of mouth.

Furthermore, word of mouth is only good if your a good seller who cares about your product, in this case a precious little addition to ANY FAMILY, if you cant keep your client happy..then business can get a bit slow do to all there families and friends finding out..better yet the INTERNET

Don't worry. This started long before you. The main thing is your puppy. Please go through the links I sent. I feel bad that as a first time dog owner you are having such a terrible experience.

Its really weird I have been getting all of the hang up phone calls from a blocked number it just starting happening about 2 or 3 days after this post I honestly have never had this happen before,:( have to tell you it makes me a little nervous

Just FYI, there are new CT pet shop rules that were signed into law by Governor Rell on July 1, 2009.

Re-imbursement for ill animals has been increased from $200 to $500, and consumers now have 20 days (previously 15) to submit a letter from a veterinarian of consumer's choosing stating that the animal is ill from a condition existing at the time of sale or has died from such illness.

And consumers now have 6 MONTHS from the day of sale to submit a letter to a pet shop from a veterinarian of the consumer's choosing stating that the animal has a CONGENITAL defect that adversely affects or will adversely affect the animal's health or has died as a result of such defect.

Consumers seeking only re-imbursement of vet care of up to $500 need not return the animal.

PENALTY TO PET SHOP: Up to $500 per animal pursuant to a civil action instituted by the State Attorney General upon complaint of the Commissioner of the Department of Agriculture, and potential private right of action by consumer.

ALSO NEW: Out of state breeders and dealers that sell dogs to Connecticut pet shops MUST BE LICENSED by the USDA and any applicable state agency. Penalty to pet shop if violated: Up to $100 and/or 30 days imprisonment PER VIOLATION, PER DAY.

If you let me know the name of the breeder, I will find out if he/she is USDA licensed.

I like everything but this:

but it is a beginning they have changed some of the other rules.

write down all times and dates.call the phone company as soon as you recieve the offending call and report it and ask for a phone trace. it doesn't matter if they block their number beause it's not blocked to the phone company.it will cost you to do the trace but its not much and typically if it is reoccuring problem (i believe 3 or more traces) then the phone company can pursue charges of harassment. they will not give you the info that they have on the caller but can tell you whether or not it is the same number. if i were the person that is calling and hanging up on you i would tred lightly with this type of behavior because the phone company is cracking down on this.

you really should pursue this because internet harassment is something that judges are trying to find people to make examples of right now. sounds like this guy woud be perfect for making an example of. just my attorney brain thinking out loud.
