RED FLAG Puppystars.com After emailing back and forth with Jamie Tracy for the last week I told her today that I keep golden retrievers in my home. They are not Pit Bulls or German Shepherds. They are one of the gentlest dogs on the planet. My husband and I have big hearts and spoil them to death. We even adopted our Buddy from a rescue group locally. She would have shipped me a puppy out today if I would have given her money on Friday. There was no questionaire on the website about me or my home and whether or not I had other animals. That was never asked. It seems like she wanted the cold hard cash. But back to my original reason for typing this, I asked alot of questions about the health and pictures of the Dam and Sire and the puppy she was getting ready to ship me today. I asked her why she was USDA licensed and if she sells to pet stores. I asked about the pedigrees, references, litters and what tests have they been tested for. I stated to her that I wanted to know about the vet and 5 references of people that she sold pups to. She wrote me back that because I have big dogs that she doesn't sell to homes with big dogs. To me it seems like she just didn't want to answer my questions or she didn't have the answers to them at all. She could say whatever she wants but she didn't even send a picture of the mother of the pup that she wanted to sell when I asked last week. She said she would put it on her computer when she has time. I hope that they are not running a puppy mill there. It would break my heart. I was a little leary of the site anyway being that they spelled "Yorkshire" "Yorksire". Oh well, that's her perogative. I am sure we will make wonderful yorkie parents to another pup. I just wanted to say thank you to all the people who have posted and recommended their breeders on here. I have been researching out yorkies for the past couple of weeks on what to ask and how to go about talking to a breeder. I am now educated and know what to look for. |
I'm so sorry for your trouble!! I am sending hugs, prayers, and good wishes for you to bring the perfect baby into your good family! |
I'm sorry you had a bad experience. Many breeder won't place puppies in homes with large dogs so I don't fault her for that..each breeder has the right to place their puppies where they want to. However, you are lucky you didn't get a puppy from them. You should definitely stay away from anyone that is USDA licensed. Only commercial breeders need to be USDA licensed and it's always a huge red flag. Good Luck finding your new baby. I highly recommend going to www.ytca.org and looking at the breeder list there. |
I would not even bothered to inquire with her site. She has atleast 9different breeds or mixes she sells. AND, she has a Buy It Now in which she accepts Visa and Master Card. At the least it scream UNREPUTABLE BREEDER. In so far as your Golden goes I'm sure that that had nothing to do with it but your questions did. As for reputable breeders not wanting their pups in a home with a Golden I think it has to do with size more then the breed. Goldens are very gentle but they are also clumsy silly big babies who can easily hurt a Yorkie unintentionally. Our first dog was a Golden. We had him until he was six months old and then found out our son was deathly allergic to dogs. We couldn't bear to sell him and ended up giving him to a family that just lost their old Sheepdog. P.S. If you are going to buy a Yorkie or any other dog PLEASE be diligent and as you did now watch for the red flags. Even go as far as to google the breeder's name and state and see if any complaints come up and stay away from petshops - the dogs ALL come from puppymills. Elaine |
I would never buy from a pet store Oh my gosh no, I would never buy an animal from a pet store. I never have just based on price alone. I don't understand just how someone can abuse an innocent animal that has done nothing. I adopted my Buddy from the Golden Retriever Rescue here in Las Vegas. There are a lot of people who buy these big dogs as puppies and don't understand that they are going to grow. When they get too big they get rid of them. I wish people would be more educated when taking on a dog. They are like children. When I bought my first golden, Miles 7 years ago I had no idea what I was doing. I saw the parents and the cute little puppy faces and I fell in love immediately. I have learned so much from reading all of your posts. I have been doing a lot of research on this website in regards to what to look for and what questions to ask breeders. I would separate my animals until I feel they are ready to be mingled with each other. My goldens do shed alot ALOT! They are not good for people who have are asmatic or allergic. But they are lovers. That's for sure. :D |
