Starmye Cont'd I apologize for not explaining. While I have seriously considered a Yorkie, my babies are Chihuahuas. I have one miniature Poodle, Bruno, who just turned 12, one 2 year old Poochi {Poodle Chihuahua} Babe, one Poochi 4months old and the Chihuahua I just purchased from Starmye Ella, as well as the Chihuahua I bought from her for my daughter. Seth is 6 months old. I came upon your site because a friend told me I should google Starmye. But I'm still not sure what it is that everyone is so concerned about. I was given the Vet check, a complete record of imunization. |
Could Someone Please Tell Me What do you mean by a back yard breeder? |
There are several definitions and opinions about the definition of a backyard breeder. If you look for the word "search" on the top blue bar on this page (I think it's directly under the 'co') you can search for that term. It will return with links to threads where the issues have been discussed in the past. It should give you a starting place. I had no idea about any of this when I found YT. Many people have no idea, so don't think you are alone. Here's a link to a great site for information. I think when you read the info on this site, and then go back and read this thread, it will start to make more sense. http://millbusters.com/ |
Ginger Ginger. I would just like to pipe in on this and say that even though YOUR puppy is great with no issues it does not make this person a good breeder. You were lucky but more then that you have to think of not only the puppies being sold but the parents of the puppies. You obviously love your puppy. Think of YOUR puppy being used ONLY to produce other puppies for a breeder to sell. Think of YOUR puppy living it's entire life in a small wire cage with limited to no vet care. Think of YOUR puppy having no human contact. Think of YOUR puppy living in a place way too hot for the summer with no venilation and in the winter the same place being so cold they can't get warm. YOUR puppy not ever getting enough to eat because the food they are fed they have to fight to get their share. The water either not being there or dirty all the time. I could go on but I think you get it. This is what a Puppymill is and a BYB is on the same level just a smaller version. Puppymills are commercial breeders that have upward of 200 - 500 breeding dogs or more. A BYB - this breeder has 93 dogs. According to the link she was sited - it was more then drainage. Would you want YOUR puppy to live that life - drainage or not? These are the questions WE ALL have to ask and think about before we buy. It's not about whether OUR puppy is healthy or was socialized in someone's house. It's about the parents also. Are they inside someone's house being loved or are they in a kennel or a small wire cage and used just to breed over and over. I'm not being snotty in any way I'm just trying to educate on where some of these puppies come from. And petstores pay so little for them that it's cheaper to have a puppy die, refund the $$ (if you're lucky) or offer a new puppy to the customer then to just simply pay the vet bill. This is why there are so many lawsuits and so many hearbroken families. Elaine |

Regarding Starmye and Robert Halpain I couldn't remember their website and so i googled their names to get it and come upon this thread and I must say that i am apalled at what is being said about them. I personally know them and will say that they are 2 of the sweetest ppl that care about each and every dog that they have and raise with all of their hearts. To call them a byb or puppymill is absolutley absurd!!!! Not one single person on here posting negative things about them know them or have even seen their farm. Yes I said farm as they live on a farm and that is where their puppies are raised . NOT is some little kennel outback with puppies/dogs stuffed in wire cages, they actually get to get out and play!!! Nor do any of these dogs/puppies have to fight for their food. I have seen puppy mill footage from the net and it is a very sad situation that no animal should go through but DO NOT compare these ppl to a puppymill breeder!!!! This is a FULL TIME JOB for Starmye that she LOVES doing!!!! She works her butt off making sure that each one of her furbabies are healthy, happy, and loved!!! EVERYONE of her furbabies are immunized/treated/and vet checked for ANYTHING that they need!!!!! AND they are with Humans EVERYDAY as her children are involved with them as well as others she has hired to help to take care of them. Starmye keeps ALL of her "living quarters" clean and in tip top shape!!! THey are VERY reputable breeders and very well known for it!!! All i have seen is ONE complaint from someone that wont even give the full story about their puppy. Did you purchase the puppy/dog from them or from someone else that said it came from them? Did you speak to them about the puppy having problems or just come on here to try and destroy their reputation? I know for a fact that she will bend over backwards to help out anyone that purchases from her and that their is a health gurantee on all of her puppies!! As for the BYB meaning. It is just a "name" that these breeder/Dog showers came up with because they were upset that someone came in and took a piece of the pie per say. UNLESS you show your dogs and breed to produce only the best in breed for showdogs then you are considered a byb. They say that they only breed to standard and to bring out the best in the dog breed but yet want to charge you 3000-5000 per puppy because they have a CHAMPION BLOOD LINE and now these "BYB" are selling their puppies for A LOT less and taking money out of these other breeders pocket so they have to attack them and try to destroy their reputation as a breeder. Leave the Halpains ALONE. They are licensed and the ONLY thing they have been fined for was from 7 years ago and was immediatley taken care of. As far as the amount of dogs on their site. MOST of them on there are puppies that have been sold over the past years NOT what they have for sale right now. AND for the record they did not give away a puppy to Miley Cyrus, SHE PURCHASED IT after searching MANY breeders and talking to several otf them SHE CHOSE THE HALPAINS because of their referrals and reputation and willingness to help and answer questions!!!!!!!!!! And her and Rodeo are as happy as can be!! Where do you think they got the photo from!!!!! For the lady that purchased the chihuahuas and had a question about the papers email stormye or call her I am sure she would be more than happy to straighten things out. |
I went to her site and I see that she breeds Yorkies, poodles, maltese, and chihuahua's....based on that alone I would never purchase from her.....I went to Pet Abuse and they claim she had 93 dogs and 25 puppies on her property in 2000......I find that incredible that she can care for all of those dogs....not to mention the stench and dog waste accumulating on the property in 2003.... Pet-Abuse.Com - Animal Abuse Case Details: Breeder in violation of AWA - 93 dogs, 25 pups - Hulbert, OK (US) I see she is very concerned where she places her pups......They appear to have been dumped at an auction in 2006......They most likely went to a puppymill .........Sold to the highest bidder!.... http://www.petshoppuppies.com/report.asp?ID=73A1408 What a shame....... |
sad:eek: very sad in deed!:thumbdown |
Actually she HIRES ppl to help take care of them as stated above if you can read. AND as for THAT auction. it is for selected ppl ONLY through a local group that are VERY particular to who can come and purchase and sell there. You have to be a member by incitation ONLY!!!!! Say what you want she will continue to raise her dogs. I recommend buying from her anyday. As for the "waste and stynch" it said that the problem they were sited for could CAUSE waste buildup and stynch. NOT that it had stynch and waste everywhere and the problem was taken care of IMMEDIATLEY!!! IF they were that bad as you guys say do you think they would still be a licensed breeder!!!!! If you have a problem with her then go to the ppl who license her and complain to them cause last i checked THEY DID do a home visit and check out the facility OFTEN!!!! |
For The Record Quote:
With all due respect Starmye had nothing to do with the puppy she had pictured on her site with Miley Cyrus. The picture has been removed from her site at the request of a lawyer representing the owner of the picture. Apparently she mistakenly assumed the puppy was one of hers. To imply that Miley Cyrus sought her out and approves of, or endorses her in any way is strictly fabrication. |

Ultimate Puppies. Can't believe I found this site. I recently purchased a Yorkie from Starmye @ Ultimate Puppies/Puppy Find. I paid $1750.00 for the Cutest Little Girl I have ever seen. What I picked up from the Airport was a Sick little Puppy that didn't even resemble the Puppy in the Picture. My Puppy was 14 weeks old the day I picked her up. Her Paperwork stated she was 11 weeks old. The Paperwork also stated this 1 1/2 pound Puppy could tolerate temps 20 degrees and above. I almost fainted when I read that. My Puppy has Multiple Health Problems. This Breeder could care less. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau of Ok. She told them I was confused and Mental. I guess I am for buying a Puppy from her. She told me to send the Puppy back to her at my expense. Is she for real? I would never send this Puppy back to her. I would be afraid she would just use her to Breed or maybe worse. I asked her to reimburse me for Medical Expenses. She refused. Even though I was scammed, I am not sorry for buying this Puppy. I feel I have saved her from who knows what? I can't believe people get away with this. It makes me sick. |
http://www.petshoppuppies.com/report.asp?ID=73A1408 oh my gosh read these inspections! they are crazy!!! |
luvryorkies, NO reputable breeder would EVER auction off their pups to the highest bidder no matter how "selective" the clientel is......and what do you think someone who buys dogs buy the gross is going to do with their purchases? You can try and explain all you want but there is more than one person who have had problems with this breeder....... Maxi85, I'm so sorry you had to deal with a greeder such as this......I don't blame you for not sending the pup back. Sad to say that this kind of thing is quite common. I hope your baby recovers and it gets all the love and care it deserves.... |

Please don't help perpetuate the suffering of these poor dogs by promoting breeders that sell at auctions. |
Ultimate Puppies Thank you so much for your concern. I love this Puppy so much. She is now a part of our Family. I am so upset I fell for the Beautiful Web Site this Breeder has. I was so sure she was on the up and up. I guess we live and learn. Hopefully I can encourage others not to do the same thing I did. In the meantime, my Puppy is my main concern. Thanks again..Maxi85 |

Plus, we want to see pictures of your baby! :) Please consider starting a new thread introducing yourself in the general forum so that you can be welcomed properly and we can ooh and ahh over your puppy. Welcome! :) |
I have been to this web site before....very, very sad :( |
OMG I can't believe how close I came to buying a puppy from these people!! I even inquired about one of their puppies but the puppy was sold. I remember checking out the website further and seeing all the different breeds they were selling and I was turned off. Thank goodness! |
bad breeder --- starmye halpain Quote:
might not know them ''personally'' but I do know this, I purchased a sick dog from them and they did nothing except ignore me. not only that , the dog requested from the web page was not the dog delivered. so instead of defending the halpains, you should have some compassion on the people that were scammed, Me personally , the puppy I received was dirty , matted had an infection in his lungs. we are still nursing him back to health, Oh and if starmye sends you a sick puppy she had no intension on reimbursing the vet bills... that's wrong!... when her web page guarantees you a healthy puppy., when you do business with someone you should do right by them if you are not delivering what was promised. as far as I concerned they are money hungry crooks that don't care about the welfare of the puppies or the people. this is going by'' my experience. sorry but i was scammed |
luvryorkies: I understand your need to defend your friend. However, the question seems to lie with customer satisfaction. So you know people who have had good experiences with her; that's great. But a truly good breeder, IMO, is determined by how a bad experience is handled, and apparently the person complaining had a bad experience and is being ignored. However friendly she may be, she is not handling this situation well. I don't think anyone blithely seeks to destroy a breeder's reputation; those who complain generally have legitimate concerns and are not getting a satisfactory response, so they simply are trying to protect others from having a bad experience. If this breeder is a truly good breeder and human being, she will work with this buyer to rectify the situation, not simply ignore her concerns and refuse good customer service. |
Sammy08 Just wrote you a long letter and then lost it somehow. I picked me Puppy up from the Airport on Friday May 9th. Couldn't get a Vet. Appt till Monday may12th. It has been all downhill from there. My Puppy has a Heart Murmur. She had a Virus and Kennel Cough. She was on so many medication's for that. It gets worse..Her stool sample tested positive for Giardia. She was on three different medications for that because we couldn't get rid of it. She was suppose to be Spayed last week, but it was postponed because she was back at the Vet's for IV fluids due to Dehydration cause by constant Diarrhea form this Giardia. I got no where with Ultimate puppie's because like you I was told she would have to talk to the Husband. The Husband threatened me. Believe me, thay won't do anything for you. And why would you want to send the Puppy back only to get another sick one? They are all from the same Kennel. I am sure they are probably all sick. I feel I saved my Puppy from a life of Hell just like you did. And just a message to lUVYORKIES OR WHOEVER YOU ARE. You don't know what you are talking about. I have dealt with these people for month's. Don't you think it is kind of funny many people on this site have had the same experience? Do your Homework. Sammy, please have the Vet. check your puppy for Giardia. Maxi85 |
I am so sorry for all that you have been through, my heart goes out to you, she told me the same line, that she would have to speak to her husband, that's a common way for her to avoid her responsibility. right now Sammy he is being treated for an infection in his lungs, we will have to bring him back to the vet in 2 weeks , thank you I will ask the vet to check him for Guardia. I don't want her to send me anther sick puppy, I have already grown attached to Sammy and I love him, but honestly, I just laid my yorkie(alfie) of 2 years down he was sick with pancretitus (don't know the spelling) and spent over 4000.oo in vet bills and he didn't get better, the vet told me that he was very sick and we probably wouldn't see an improvement so we made the choice to put him to sleep. it broke my heart, financially I cant care for another sick dog. I am not working right now. I hope and pray to see an improvement. I will not send him back. I cant imagine them nursing sick puppies back to health. I will make one more attempt will her and then I will have to look into my legal options. I pray your pooch gets better, she is blessed to have you! |
Please read your e-mail.. |

Hi everyone, I'm yet another person who found Yorkie Talk by googling Starmye Halpain. Some two years ago, I helped my house mate search for a Yorkie puppy; both of us fell in love with the perfect facade that is their website. Living in California, we decided to skip the hassle of flying all the way down to Oklahoma just to check on the puppy. After all, the hundreds or so positive testimonials posted on their website can't be wrong, right? How young and naive we were. Sure, the puppy was adorable. Sure, he never did bark... I'm not even sure if that's a good thing. But oh, the hyper little furball had such separation anxiety and never failed to leaves gifts on every possible corner of the house. Over time, we drifted apart as friends, and it is only through a common friend that I heard that the dog had died due to some digestive system related health problems. I don't know the specific details of it, but she was grieved enough to immediately buy another Yorkie and gave him the same name. A part of me felt sorry for her, but somehow I give the Halpains the benefit of the doubt as I didn't know what exactly happened to her Yorkie. Needless to say, my initial resolution to boycott them is often swayed by how precious their puppies look and how affordable they are. I can't help checking their website every now and then just to ogle at the cute little dogs. It wasn't until I came across YT and saw three separate threads of warning on the Halpain family, and the posts by gingerslovesella, luvryorkies that in gist fervently defends the Halpains. Be it when they're posing as an inquiring buyer (who created an account just for this thread and never posted again ever since) or one of their friends claiming that their farm is a top notch breeding ground (same case with the account). I mean, even if you don't know anything about dogs, how honest and genuine could someone be if they had the audacity to create fake accounts in order to defend themselves. That's mistake numero uno in terms of forum integrity. I know, I sound like I jumped into conclusion but hey, who am I supposed to fear? More random new accounts? Now that I'm (slightly :D) older and wiser, I noticed that not only do they have multiple breeds, they have never updated their dams and sires photo page, their warranty scantly covers anything for a maximum of 6 months at which point the puppies wouldn't even have reached their adult stage, and upon contacting them as an "interested buyer" (hey, they're not the only ones that can pose, y'know), more red flags arose. For example, a puppy that was listed to be "lively and energetic" on Puppyfind.com is suddenly the mellow puppy (I know, ain't that an oxymoron?) I asked for. Also, back in January, a female puppy named Laci was listed as having champion bloodline on Puppyfind.com whereas her two other male litter mates, Luke and Lew (listed as having the same dam and sire on their website) weren't. Upon confronting the matter, i received the following rubbish: She is out of champion bloodlines but not parents. Her mom was shown in a couple of shows and won both of them. We did not get to finish showing her because she was going to have these babies. She is an awesome dog with the nicest and thickest hair coat. The boys are her brothers and have the same bloodline. Thanks, Robert Please, please, please, would someone who knows how to request a USDA inspection / any other form of reporting them do something about them? |
I don't know of this person but when I did a search it looks like they have had serious problems And 93 breeding dogs OMG :( Pet-Abuse.Com - Animal Abuse Case Details: Breeder in violation of AWA - 93 dogs, 25 pups - Hulbert, OK (US) |
I am so thankful that I didn't get a puppy from her. First time I saw her puppies I feel in love with one of her puppies. I was going to put a deposit on it but I decided to wait and ask a few more question. Simple questions too! She never replied after a few emails. She didnt' even tell me she sold the puppy until I saw it on her web page! I was really upset but I decided to look pass that and give her another shot cause her puppies looked so adorable. After a month or so waiting for her to post up new puppies I decided to look her up and. . . . boy am I glad I did so. I found all these bad stuff and I found this website. She needs to stop breeding! Shes selling sick dogs to people! |
