Pups nails need trimming..... Okay...Lexie's 4 puppies will be 2 weeks old this Sunday and I notice that their tiny little nails are getting long and getting snagged on the bedding in their box. I also don't want them scratching poor mommys belly while they are nursing. My question? How in the world do you clip those tiny, tiny nails without clipping to short? What is the best thing to use? I am thinking I've seen itty bitty nail clippers used for newborn babys; would that work? Advise, please! |
I just use regular size nail cliippers. |
I use baby clippers and only cut the tip ends off. My breeder showed me how to do this. |
I did that for the first time tonight. I used dog clippers, that you squeeze together like plyers, and the blade comes to gether like scissors to snip the nails. I made sure to only cut the tip, I mean, i BARELY took anything off, just the point, and it made a HUGE difference. I would say the less you clip the better, and I like what I used because it was very easy to see how much I was snipping. |
I use the baby nail clippers. |

Thanks Thanks for all of your replies, ideas, and advise! I will be sure to attempt this today...it's amazing at how sharp those tiny little things can be. THIS IS SUCH A GREAT PLACE TO BE! |
