I need help answering some questions PLEASE!!! 1 Attachment(s) OK, I hope no one dogs me for this because I was not expecting this yet. I bought a female yorkie that's 2 yrs. old. Everything is fine and we love her very much. We have had her going on 3 weeks now. We had planned on breeding her but not yet. I don't even have a male. OK, I got an e-mail from the guy I got her from saying that "oh yeah, she could be preg, beause her and my male were left alone alot. Altough we never witnessed a tie." Lucy weighs 8lbs, and his male weighs 5lbs. She really could be preg!!! She is wide in her back, sleeps seems 24/7 and is very moody. Her nipples are real pointy, erect looking. Also, she has gained 1 1/2 lbs in almost 3 weeks. Question is this, how far along are they before you can hear heartbeats? I have just called my vet to bring her in, but he is a "small-town" vet and doesn't have x-ray machines or any of that stuff. I hope he at least has the preg test. So any helpful advice would be great, and please remember that If she is, I have no idea what the conception date was. Thanks!! |
I don't know anything about this but I know there are members here who can help you out. I just wanted to say Welcome to YT and Congratulations on the newest member of your family. |
I would take her in, my Vet can start feeling for the pups around 4 to 5 weeks, and since you are not sure of conception date, I would take her in. |
problem Hi and welcome...there is no pregnancy test for dogs.. Can the first owner give you a time frame as to when she was in heat? Can you post a photo of her under belly, laying on her back? Treat her as if she is expecting a litter, diet-wise (puppy dry) read the achives for more info..her size is good and the male is at least a smaller Yorkie. Are you telling me the vet has no way to xray anything..what about a broken bone etc. My husband has relatives in Ky and some places are very rural..but can you find a vet in an area to help you out in case of a serious problem? I doubt you will have a problem with an 8 pounders, but it is always best to be prepared... Start reading everything here about pregnancy/whelping and you may call me if there is any question I can answer when whelping starts..or any other time..561-732-5067 |
Hi and welcome to YT. So glad you could join us. Looks like you may be a grandma soon. ;) I just hope there will be no complications. Just go ahead and make up a whelping box for her to get used to. Usually the day of birth, the mom is very restless and pants a lot. Sometimes not eating, but drinking a lot of water. This is the time to keep a very close eye on her. Don't let her outside unless your with her, and make sure she can't get under anything outside where you couldn't reach her. If you do, then put her harness and leash on each time you take her out. Good luck, and keep us up on things. |
3 Attachment(s) Yes here are some pics. I am going to have to find a vet with all that stuff. I also have a pug but thankfully she hasn't have any big medical issuse. |

If you will pm me your location in Kentucky, I might be able to help you out. My vet is small town and rural but he can feel the babies at about thirty days. He does not believe in X-rays but will if I insist. I found a wonderful vet about an hour away from me that does ultrasounds at 28 days and x-rays a few days before delivery. The drive is worth it to me and the cost is very reasonable. Sooooooooo, where in Ky are you. |

belly If she is..I would say less then 5 or less weeks..try to find out more info from the previous owner...she looks healthy and has good weight...she is lucky to have found a caring owner as you....keep us up dated.. Dee really wants to help you out...LOL LOL |
I have found one about 25 mins from me in next town over. It will be a week before he can see her though. I will take her to mine in the meantime. Thanks for all the support!! |
Also, I have tried with the previous owner. He can't tell me anything. He says he didn't really pay any attention to her heat if she even came in. My mom seems to think he knew she may have got pg, but didn't want to deal with it. He just keeps telling me that his male is from champion bloodlines so if i need his regisration # to let him know. He's being quite the jerk about it. |
I have no advice but just want to say welcome and Lucy has a beautiful face. She looks so sweet :) |
Sorry for the repeat posts. I would sure make him give me that male's number. Not only that, but he will have to sign the litter papers too since he was owner of the bitch at that time. |
