Pillows for the birth.... Heh, heh! I got a birthing box ready for Lucy today..she's due in a couple of days. Put an absorbant rug in the bottom, and some towels. My husband asked if that wasnt a little "rough" for the newborns to arrive on. I asked him what he had in mind and he said maybe a soft pillow or something. Something in the way he said that made me ask what exactly he expected to happen when they were born, did he not realize it could be a little messy to be using pillows on? Needless to say, no he did not realize at all. Just kinda laughing to myself at the thought.....he thought they would come out all clean and shiney like a new penny............he's new to this but come on!!!! I thought it was cute. He'll be REALLY surprised if he's around to watch..Wonder how he would take watching a human baby's birth.. I have an odd sense of humor sometimes..... Laura |
From one B'ham resident to another, men can be a bit clueless sometimes...lol. But I'm guessing you've already discovered that.:p |

Be sure they're satin ;) |
Be very careful using towels in the whelping box because the puppies can "get lost' in them and smother before you find them or mom might even hide one. But I'm sure you will be right there with her and hopefully, hubby too;) |
Actually, the towels are for cleaning up. Me and my husband got married a little over a year ago. I just had no idea that he had no idea about such things at 40 years old! It was kinda sweet that he wanted the babies to have a softer landing, and was rather mortified to hear that birthing wasnt a real "clean" experience. I, on the other hand, have experienced childbirth twice, and have delivered puppies before, and just assumed he knew. Judging from his face, if he is present, I may need to have some smelling salts handy for him! I suppose putting him on puppywatch is not a good idea........... Laura |

I just noticed that Tiger's Mom has the satin sleepwear available too! Your girl will be all set! |
 I would love to be a mouse in the corner if your hubby's there for the birth!! He may never kiss a Yorkie baby again! :sidesplt: As I read about the pillow, I just thought, now there's a real "Southern" gentleman! My Patrick always wants ladies and children to be comfy!! :p Can't wait to hear about the births. [Hey, Misty, how about last Saturday?? Did you go?] |
I remember when my hubby witness his first whelp. He was running around like a chicken with his head cut off. I vividly remember at one point the phrase, "She's eating that! She's eating that! Someone stop her she's eating that!" We called him Prissy. ("He don't know nothin bought birthin' no puppies.") Luckily, I didn't require his assistance. The second time he started to kind of panic again and I cut him off--either shut up and calm down, or go get some food. The BBQ was good.;) Quote:

1 Attachment(s) Haha, that is funny. For Destiny's whelping box, I put some old sheets and a blanket in her box because I knew they were going to get pretty messy. It make her box real comfy and soft and since they were older sheets it didn't matter that they got dirty. After she had the pups I changed the bedding right away, I stuck it in the wash and it came out looking good with no stains. So shortly after she had the pups I switched the bedding to a nice soft thick comforter. She loves it and it real nice and cushioned for her and the pups. I have three comforters that I switch to since I change her bedding often to make sure everything is kept clean. In fact before Destiny had the pups, I had her box out about a week before her due date so she would get use to it. The other dogs found it and thought I had just bought them a new comfy bed, they all wanted to lay in it because it was so comfy, lol. And yes do be careful when you are using blankets, sheets or towels. They can crawl under them and get stuck. The way I have the comforters that I use is so that it covers the whole box and hangs down some in a way that makes it nearly impossible for them to get under the covers, even if Destiny digs a lot. Good luck with the upcoming delivery. |
Well his heart was in the right place. Too cute. |
