Stud question Do dogs have to stay locked for 15 - 30 min. in order for a pregnancy to occur? Can a pregnancy happen without a lock? |
I'm no expert on this, but I think I read once that they can still get pregant without being totally locked up. |
They don't have to actually lock. Better chances if they do. But pregnancy can result without a lock. |
Normally during the beginning of the tie is when the highest concentration of sperm to semen ratio is released..If it were my pair..I wouldn't consider it a sucessful session if s tie didn't occur...but...I'm sure preg, has occured before without it....somewhere. Also a tie can be 5 minutes...and be sucessful...Did they tie at all or did it just not last the time period you stated??? |
Connor had a single outside tie with a bitch about 9 weeks ago and she's whelping as we speak so it can happen but the chances are better with a full tie. |
The first time they were together two different times that lasted about five minutes each but no lock. The next day tried again, the lock lasted about 15 minutes. I am sure my male Ozzie completed the task. (By the way, Ozzie has cheated on his life partner Selby. . . .She is not happy. . . .LOL ) |

i let my new boy mount my girls when they were in heat but i did not let a tie occur. both went through false pregnancies. one was mild which was ok but my other is just like she is pregnant. big, swollen, hiding. the vet said there are no babies but it is nerve raking to think the vet might be wrong (which we have seen plenty of times) i told the vet i let him mount to teach him the proper way (7 months old)thought one time there was an outside tie but he said there is a very slim chance of a pregnancy. it can happen but very slim. |
