Tube feeding -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi everyone, We are new here, and I have ques. I am getting a new baby (yorkie type ) next week, and my question is, does tube feeding affect size and skeletal structure? This new baby started out really small, 1 oz. and they tube fed the babies until about 6 wks. my concern is because everytime I saw them, they looked like baked potatoes they were so fat and full all the time. Is that bad to have them get SO full everytime? I just know how miserable I feel when I over eat, and will that affect her muskoskeletal skeletal system to be filled that full all the time? I was also wondering if these little ones slow down their growth sooner than other breeds? My little MiMi is 4 mo. old and has been 1# 12 oz. for about a month now. She is very healthy but really little. Thanks for all of your help and expert advice, I REALLY appreciate it. Alicia Minka & MiMi |
pup I have tube fed many and noticed no different in health IF they were born genetically healthy...it would be like the bottle and breast fed human baby debate. Most puppies are fat blobs whether fed by Yorkie mom or human mom... |
I have had to tube fed a few and the only difference I would note is if the puppy didnt get the first colostrum from the mom because it was too weak to suck, then it may be more prone to getting sick than a puppy that nursed right from the start. I dont think it would affect anything else. I am not sure why anyone would tube feed a puppy for 6 weeks though. They can eat food at around 4 weeks. |
