[QUOTE= Have you ever taken a teeny Yorkie baby to the vet and asked for help? I have. They say they can't do anything because the baby is so small. If it were 8 ozs or more they could do something with them. This baby is 2.8ozs. They can't put an IV in him. The most they could do that I can't do is give him oxygen. They might get a drop or two of antibiotic on his tongue but antibiotics may not help. I can get him to take some nourishment and I am with him CONSTANTLY, they are not. They have other duties to take care of. I can tend my baby almost as well as they can. Sylvia[/QUOTE] I have (well my sisters) and at the end of the day I could say I did all that I could. In between whelps, I prepare myself and study and see if there is any thing that I need that perhaps it won't happen again. Although, we know it just happens sometimes. That puppy may be 1 of 3 litters are 1 of 3 puppies. We give that puppy our all because we brought it into this world, and it's our responsibility. (I've taken in a 1 ounce and they said she would likely die, but she's as healthy as a horse because I took her to the vet and asked them to teach me how to tube feed her) |

Please borrow the money if you have to. Those babies NEED to be seen by a vet. |

You are doing good. I agree with the others about how important it is to see the vet, but I also understand if you CAN'T, then you can't as sad as that is. Just be sure and try to get him to nurse before you give him supplement. It is so important to get moms colstrum. Supplementing should be done AFTER he has nursed if he needs it. Even if you have to hold Mom in place to get her to stay there and nurse him, she will learn in a few days. She should be in there with him all the time except when going out to potty. You might have to stay right there with her to make her stay with him. And I am going to say it again.. WARM WARM WARM.. I cannot stress enough how important that is. I have to leave for a couple of hours but I will check back when I get home.. Please don't stop posting.. Keep us informed until this little guy is out of danger. Sonya |

keep him warm If you have a heating pad put him on that I actually hold them up to the mom teat to nurse. Nutra Cal or Karo helps if you can get someone to get you some esbilac milk replacement so you can feed the puppy if she keeps refusing him. I will keep him in my prayers I know it is nerve racking. I had a first time mom (different breed) keep pushing a baby away and I kept putting her back she finally started nursing her and the baby did fine. Just keep him warm |

How's the baby doing Sylvia? I have been thinking about you while I was gone.. I hope he is doing better. Sonya |
puppy He does look a little immature in the pictures. Did she go full term or was she early?? Sometimes first moms are nervous and dont take good care of the pups. Is she done delivering?? They dont usually settle down with the pups until they are done. Does she have milk? If she doesnt take care of him, can you put him on the other girl that just had puppies and knows what to do? Lynn |
I know with Lexie she had a c-section and was pretty much out of it, but I had to put her in a little crate to stay with them at first, I would also put her on my bed and get her to lay on her side and help and make sure they were nursing, the boy we had no problems he was trying to suck everything but the girl worried me, and they both weighed 3.5, make sure he is warm and she is doing good, Lexie wouldn't ever stay near them for long, but after the meds wore off that night you can't get her away, you may have to help him nurse on her till he and she gets the hang of it. |

Wow, I just read this whole post! I think you are doing a great job. Keep it up and I'll be praying for the little guy. I'd like to see a pic, where did you post them? Have a good night:D |
The pictures are here but if anyone has posted more pictures you might have to look a little for them. I think there are 12 or 13 of them. I just couldn't get a good picture of the side of his head. I took pictures of another puppy and they didn't turn out like these did. Sylvia http://www.yorkietalk.com/gallery/index.php |
It seems the switch is doing well, getting mom use to a pup at least. Bless his heart, crying all the time. I'm like you, hope that's not indicative of anything being wrong. I don't know if I read right or not, has his hurse or eaten yet? That's great that you know how to tube, it's a good way to know their definitely getting so much (cc's) of food. Next time you put him with mom just to let them bond, I've heard of smearing peanut butter (or something mom may like) on the puppy. That will help them to lick them and "acquaint" themselves with one another. I feel for you tonight, I know you'll be worried about him. We'll be thinking of you two, and checking in. |

That sounds like a good plan you have. Do you think he's crying because he's hungry? If you think he hasn't eaten a whole lot, I would (if I were in this situation) tube him the supplement and see if he'll stop crying and be satisfied a while. They cry like the dickens when they're hungry. Just a thought :) |

The three things your puppy needs is Warmth, Hydration and Glucose. Also make sure he is pottying. So thats actually 4 things. My vet told me that is all he can do when one is early is the three things I first listed. Best of luck deana Prestigeous Yorkies |
