Yorkie Size
 
I bred my male Yorkie with a female Yorkie, she had 4 puppies June 24, 2007. One doesn't look like the rest, he's much larger and his coat is different than the others, he has all the marking of a Yorkie. Has anyone ever experienced this before? Thanks, Leah

Could be he is a throw back (know how those genes work). That's why I try to know the history of my dogs and sizes, even when trying to be perfect nature throws in something different from time to time. Just love him, there are a lot of people who want the larger ones. Send pics. I bet he is adorable. Someone told me one time, if you want to know how a puppy will look, see the grandparents, not parents.... NOT sure if it works...but is a thought and definately has an influence on genetics.

I had a past litter of pups, mom 6lbs, dad 41/2 lbs, all puppy were average size. Now that they are all grown up...one boy weighs 3lbs....the others around 5 lbs. genetics, genetics.

:thumbup: :thumbup: Yep!! That's why it's not 100% that if you breed two show dogs that you will get a show puppy. Genetics!!

Thanks for the replies, as soon as can I'll post a pic of him and his sister. He's adorable and so sweet, I love him no matter how he turns out. I'm taking both of them to the vet Tuesday, I'm curious as what the weight difference in them are. I'm also going to get the vet's opinion.

Like someone already mentioned, it is probably what is referred to as a throwback. We had one pup out of 8 (2 litters) have a different texture coat and was about 9 pounds full grown.
But of course, I'd love to see cute pup pics anyhow!;)

My Angel must be a throwback, because she is normally 11 pounds, I brought her from a breeder a couple of years ago that was kind of mean because she was bigger than most, and only wanted her as a pet, and I didn't know any better, it wasn't until I started reading on how to care for them that I was troubled by her being heavier than the 7 pound maximum that every book mentions, but she is cute just the same and very healthy and my vet told me not to worry about the weight. It was hard trying to find a male bigger enough to breed her however...

Just out of curiosity, you were upset when you got her and she was bigger than the standard 7 pound maximum. Why did you then decide to breed her and repeat the cycle? :confused:

Disregard that last question...looking back I see you bred her to a poodle...so there was no standard to follow. :rolleyes:

I am sorry let me clarify, I didn't care when I got her, I thought that I was doing something wrong and that's why she was so big. It was not my intent to breed her, I just wanted a pet, and procrastinated on getting her fixed. I usually have mix breeds that I get from the SPCA, like my older dog. I'm sorry if I wrote it incorrectly previously.

I meant that the breeder was upset because she was so big, not me, because I didn't know any different.
