God Speed Jay Ammon Last night I was notified of the passing of my good friend and mentor. Jay for those of you that did not know her , she was a very colorful woman with a unforgettable laugh. She took me under her wings and taught me so much when no one else had time. She had more knowledge than all the yorkie people put together. She had some of the top winning dogs in the Beagle ring , Afgan and Shih Tzu and last the Yorkie Ring. She always said what she was thinking, never minced words. If you could not handle the answer you shouldn't ask the question. The first time I met Jay she had already taken ill , but that did not stop her from teaching me , I spent many nights sitting on her bed and talking and watching video's . The nights would go on into the wee hours of the morning. I would be so tired after a weekend with Jay. I was not the only one she gave her time to, there were many others. To get to know Jay is to love her. Jay had the ability to take a dog and make it look stunning, she could color, trim and show like no other and she was proud of her artistic ability. She never hid anything . She was strong and smart and so much fun to be with. I know I am rambling, but tonight I am a bit sad , but I can still hear her laughter and it makes me smile with my tears. I have her phone # in speed dial so I can call her to keep her updated on the wins at the shows, now she can look down and watch for her self. My first home bred Champion was sired by her Ch. Montclair Bullet Proof and I will always be thankful for all her help. Rest in Peace Jay |
Jay Jay was a super nice person..had a true love for the breed and protected it with passion. Her articles in the Yoekie mags were always instruction and entertaining.. |
I am very sorry to hear this. It is very sad indeed to hear of the passing of such a pioneer and promoter of the Yorkie breed. My sympathy goes out to you and those whom were close to her. I hope that dedicated breeders like you Debbie will continue to do her line proud be a testament for her hard work and dedication to the breed. |
Deb, I too heard this sad news on a list that we are both on. What a wonderful, artistic and dedicated woman. She as others of her era have that same stuff that only the best have. I too am privledged to have some of that Montclair blood in my line. I will hold it dear and treat it with the respect, honor and trust that such a great breeder is entitled to. As each one of these greats pass on I can only hope that there is someone worthy to fill their shoes, if that is possible. We lost Terri Schumsky, Laniee and now Jay.... I will miss her reprinted articles in YT Mary |
:( Sorry for your loss :angel2dl: God Bless You Crystal,Josh, and Peanut Pooh Bear:animal36 |
The yorkie world has lost another great one. |
Jay Jay will be very missed. I never got to meet her, but loved her dogs and articles that she wrote for The Yorkshire Terrier Magazine. Alot of my stock goes back to her dogs. Another wonderful, dedicated breeder of Yorkies is gone. Its a sad day. Lynn |
I\'m so sorry you lost such a special friend. Sounds like she was a wonder person and mentor to you. |
Thanks for letting us young ones know her through everyone\'s words. Thank goodness her teachings and passion didn\'t die, they live on in the ones that she mentored all over the Yorkie world, she left a great legacy. |
So very sorry to hear of her passing and that you lost your mentor and dear friend. I never met her in person but loved her dogs and the wonderful informative articles she wrote in the Yorkshire Terrier Magazine and her quick wit. My Crystal has her Am.Can. Ch. Montclair The Devil Himself very close in her pedigree. I was sure the "Devil" was on a cover and yet with all the \'mags\' I have I can not find it. I can see that little dog like it was yesterday. |
I am sorry to hear of her passing. She sounds like she was a wonderful woman and a good friend. Hopefully I can still learn from her articles and through those of you that knew her. I am sorry you lost such a great friend, Debbie. You have been such a friend to me. I wouldn\'t have my two little ones if you hadn\'t taught and encouraged me like you did and then you were there for advice late at night when they were born. I think you are carrying on her legacy! A sincere thank you to you and all the other wonderful breeders who are not too busy to share your knowledge and help a new comer! |
I just wanted to thank everyone for all their nice words about Jay, I don\'t think there is going to be a service for her so I thought this would be a way of sharing how I felt about her and to let every one do the same. She will live on in a lot of us and in the dogs she produced , what a great legacy she has left behind. I have had a few mentors in my time showing dogs and it has taught me to give back what I can. Nancy you are very welcome and I do feel a bit responsible for your babies, you were a good student!!! It takes a great deal of time to be a mentor, if you have someone that is teaching you, you are very lucky. |
May she be in God\'s loving arms. So sorry for your loss. |
Debbie, I\'m so sorry for your loss. From all I have heard about her, the dog world has lost a wonderful resource and a great lady. I wish I could have know her. Sincerely, Trish |
I\'m sorry for your loss :( I haven\'t heard of her, but from what you\'ve said she sounds like a great person. |
