Looking for Mentor In oklahoma Hi all i am looking for a mentor in oklahoma preferrably around the OKC area. I just need some basic questions answered. Its not my dog but it is a dog we breeding with. Her owners have never bred before and dont know much about it i am giving them lots of info but there are still some things i am hazy on. |
Mentor I will try to answer any questions I can. If you perfer not to post these questions on the open forum, you may PM or email me..Primyork@aol.com |
Thank you thanks to Kim i know that the female should come stay with me....can you recommend a good day to breed i have heard the 17th day. If the dogs get tied does that mean pregnancy will occur. How often should they mate? |
breeding That is much toooo late to start. You go by several factors..the bitch should be swollen and the color should be very light pink to straw color. Try the first breeding at 10 days..no luck, try each day..AM and PM. I perfer 10 to 12 for a first day breeding, then I breed, as a rule...11, 12, and 14. Stroke the back leg of the female and she should turn her tail..a good sign when she is flagging. A tie is just that a tie..it may result in a litter and may not, most often it does. |
Thanks for the info we arent planning on breeding for atleast another 2 months so i wanted to get as much info as i could before hand |
Good You have lots of time to read and ask questions...as the stud owner you have the easiest part! LOL I am sure you will want to be available to the owner of the female for help and advise if they are novices also. |
In your opinion what should i do if they dont want the female to stay with us we havent discussed it yet just wondering what i should say if they do object. |
female Do you mean for breeding or the gestation/whelping? If for the breeding, you can have them come each sday..although I do not like it that way..a bit unsettling for the female. |
