Breeding Weights Is it OK to breed a girl that's a couple pounds overweight? She was 5.5# at 18m before her first litter. She's probably close to 8# now and a chunk. |
weight If she has a 5 pound frame is 3 pounds overweight..I would try to reduce her weight by a full pound or so..but if she is a larger girl with a larger frame and weights 8 pounds and a good breeding potential, then I would have no problem. |
When I was ready to breed Peanut a few mths before her expected heat cycle she was 2 lbs overweight. It was not a good weight for her since she is typically only 6 1/2 lbs and I had to put her on a diet before breeding her. she now has weaned her puppies and has returned to almost her normal weight of 6 1/2 lbs now. I do agree it depends on what their normal healthy weight is. |
