Am I wrong?! Don't we have the responsibility, as breeders, to breed within breed standards? I realize that yorkies come in all shapes and sizes....but, we don't breed them all! I read in a new thread in General Discussion that someone just bred her 10lb female with a small male in hopes of getting smaller dogs "full grown". Is that being irresponsible? or am I wrong? curious what others think... |
I agree with yoy. As breeders it is our responsibility to do all we can to uphold and improve the breed. We must continually study and have a plan for improving our line. All you have to do is take a look on puppyfind to see the results of indescriminate breeding. Alot of those pups don't even look like Yorkies. With the popularity of this breed and therefore the ability to generate a good cash flow, our breed is really being compromised. The difference between a well bred dog and a backyard breeders product was never so evident! |
I don't breed yet, and don't know if I will until I see how Penny turns out, but I do agree with you. Breeding is to better the breed, not for money. People think they'll make tons of money, and I guess some do, however these are the people that don't do all the proper testing, and give the proper upbringing to their pups. It makes me really aggravated. |
we see it here all of the time. since you are somewhat new, you will see people coming on this board for that reason alone. "i want to breed my yorkie". you can educate them until you are blue in the face but the fact is they will still do it. it is really sad. |
