Getting worried about Tinkerbell!!

Sorry I made this thread, but figured it would be easier this way:rolleyes:

YAY!!! I am happy to report that Tinkerbell's babies are still doing great They are eating and sleeping like they should!!!

I have a couple of questions, if anyone can please help me

I thought I saw baby poo in the whelping box, can babies already poo??

I am going to weigh them today, but it makes Tinkerbell uncomfortable, and she cries if the baby cries, is this normal??

Tinkerbell is not drinking water, but I am feeding her Chicken breast with brown rice, and the broth from both the chicken and rice, so I guess she gets liquid from that.

When should I worry about her, I mean she only drinks the broth, she hasn't touched her water, but she is peeing and her pee is kind of clear not really yellow like before Is this normal, she had some blood in her pee the first couple of times she peed but now is mainly looking like water but smells like pee.

If anyone can help me I would appreciated very much, Does any one have recipes I can make her to increase her drinking
Thank You ladies, MICKIE

1. The babies can and must poo from the very first day, you don't see it as the mother keeps them clean.

2. Yes it is normal for the moms to get very upset with you when you take their babies away, set your scale up close to the pen and weigh them quick and get them back as soon as possible.

3. Yes your girl needs water, sometimes they will not leave their babies you will need to bring the water to her bedside and hold it for her. She should be back to drinking normal soon. They need lots of water. You can add some water to her broth.

Hi, I'm not very experience myself but I'll try to help you out the best I can. I think it's all right for babies to poo because they're feeding after all, thing is it's not very common to spot it because moms usually diaper them.
Yeah, it sure is normal that the mom should cry whenever the babies are separated from her. Can you put the scales on the floor, next to the whelping-box so that mom will be able to keep an eye on the pups all the time. Maybe she gets a little less anxious is she's able to watch them.
I guess than as long as she's drinking the broth, she's having liquid intake. I'm not surprised she doesn't want any water, she sure finds broth much more appetizing. If you cut down on the amount of broth you're giving her progressively, she'll end up thirsty and will probably accept water.
As for the pee, as long as it's clear, I guess its ok. I don't think she passed any blood on her pee. What I think happened was that since she has just whelped she passed some blood through the vulva and it got mixed up with the pee.
Stay calm, I think Tinkerbell is doing just fine.

Hello, thanks for the info, I called my vet and I am taking her in today at 2:00 so pretty soon here;) I told them everything that is going on and they said it sounds like she is doing ok, but still take her in just to make sure.

How do I take them in?? I mean in the whelping box?? I am kind of nervous about it:confused:

you live in Texas so it is probably warm there so if you just put the puppies and her into a small kennel you should be fine. Just remember do not let her walk at the vets keep her off the ground and do not let any one touch her or the puppies . Make sure the vet and tec's wash their hands before touching them too. Make sure they wash the table also, you would not think you have to tell them to wash their hands, but some vets forget.

Thanks, Yes it is warm here in Texas, I figure I would just put them in a basket since the whelping box is too large . I will make sure no one touches the babies other than the vet and the tec's.

Some of mine don't drink right after or it seems for a few days. It bums me out but everything goes ok and she had milk. I got to the point with one that I syringed water into her mouth. After about 1 wk she went back to normal drinking. If I am taking mom in for a check right after birth I leave the pups at home. If taking them in for tails and dews, I leave mom at home and bring them in a cat carrier with a light towel over them. In the winter I warm up the car for about 15 minutes and sweat all the way there and home with the heat blasting:D

Thank You, I took her in for a check up and took both Tinkerbell and the babies, it was ok, she was alittle stressed out about the whole thing:( She could smell the other dogs in there. I took her in the bassinet she used to sleep in before the babies and put a blanket over so she was still protected:rolleyes:. They vet checked them and said they are very healty and doing good. The tails and dew claws got removed so they screamed a little but they look good:D

So happy to hear they're doing so well. Hope to see pics of your babies soon.

I am glad she and the puppies are doing good. I literally have to syringe all of Bailey's liquids or she wont drink. She doesnt care too much for water so I am syringing her Esbilac since I am having a heck of a time getting her to eat. She will lap the liquid from the syringe it just takes longer.
