Heat Cycle Day 18, Still bleeding ?? Zsa Zsa went into heat recently, started showing color July 30th. She is on day 18 and still having occasional spotting of red blood, I expected to see a brownish tinge at this point but not red. Should I be concerned? She seems to be feeling fine. She is flagging when you scratch her back still too, thought that would be over by now too.:( I'm ready for this to be over and can't wait to get her spayed! |
from my understanding, it can last 21 days |
I think it's normal. The duration of bleeding can vary from one dog to another, I guess. I've already heard of some yorkies who go on bleeding quite long. |
Thanks for the responses. I moved Windsor to my BF's house and he is so sad without Zsa Zsa and Abbie, hoping to get them back together this weekend if she'll quit flagging. We don't want any puppies, have my hands full with these three!:p |
I really need to find out more info on this... My Meka is only 5 1/2 mo now and it would be good to know what to expect when that time comes. |
Windsors Mom, The typical heat cycle is 7 days coming (bleeding), 7 days in (no blood, fertile) and 7 days leaving. Not too awful many have met the typical bitch. Yours is probably just fine for her. |
some girls will have a split heat...which means they will have all the normal symptoms of a normal heat and two-four weeks later do it again. Usually the latter occurs because of a hormonal imbalance in the bitch. hope this helps |
She certainly isn't typical of the female dogs i've had in the past which is not a lot as i've only had two other female dogs. Chelsea my Cocker Spaniel (before her spay) when she went in heat you'd never have known except for the swelling, never saw any blood, that was much easier..... They are all different I guess, we don't plan to deal with this again. Calling the vet on monday and scheduling everyone to get fixed! |
