Pics of whelping box/area???

Hi, does anyone have pics of a whelping box??:D

I don't have pics of a whelping box, but I know that a small size plastic swimming pool works really well.

Here's a pic of my puppy pen and whelping box. The pen has a removable divider for when the pups need a potty area. We also have a gate that mom can get over but pups can't for when mom is ready for a bit more freedom.

I just use one of those flat plastic storage things that slide under the bed. It is about 4 feet long I think and wide enough for Bailey to lay sideways in it. It is big enough to put a heating pad in one side and the momma still has plenty of room to lay if she doesnt want to lay on the heating pad. When the pups eyes open and they are starting to get around I use a pen like Ladyhawk has and line the bottom with a shower curtain and then blankets.

Thank You so much for that;) :D I really needed to see pics:D How early ar you supposed to have this ready for them?? I mean Tinkerbell isn't due till the 20-22 of Aug:eek: not that much time left I guess:eek:

If you are going to buy a platic box like that for whelping I would suggest getting the flatter one like I suggested only because momma will jump in to get to her babies and there is a bigger chance of the puppies getting hurt with that tall smaller one. With the flatter one that is about 5 or so inches tall she just has to do a little leap to get in and it is big enough she can jump in where there are no puppies.

Thank You so much for the info, I think I like the flatter/wider one:D

Thanks for sharing your info. I won't be breeding for a couple of years, but I like to read, and learn all I can.

My box is taller but has a cutout for mom to jump in and out of. I get the pen and whelping box set up about a week before she is due to whelp. I also give her a bath and shave her tummy and get my whelping supplies together at that time.

Here is a picture of my whelping set up. For whelping, all I had in the pen was the bottom half of a travel crate to use as a whelping box. During whelping, I took my basket full of supplies and sat in the pen with her.

Once the babies were getting around at about 3 weeks, I made the divider and put it in the pen, creating three rooms. The smallest (rear left) was the sleeping area, the middle (front left) was the pee pad area, and the largest area 9right side) was for eating and playing. The Mom could get to all areas by jumping over the divider. I had another bed in the play area for mom so she could get away from the puppies, but still be close by.

I closed off the play area at first, until the puppies learned to use the pee pad, after that they were able to go to all the areas, and it worked just like I had planned it. they had theuir own little apartment.

Our female's whelping pen is a blue baby pool that we use. Depending on the female in labor, I put towels, blankets, or I have made a fitted sheet to fit the pool. The puppies are born in this area. The Mother can easily get in and out of the pool to nurse. The puppies can usually stay in this pen for 3 weeks before they start to climb out. Then we set up the "gate community" that gives the puppies more room and also has a sleeping area and a paper area, where I start to potty train the puppies. The bad thing about this is that we have to physically put Mom in and out of the pen from the top. When the puppies get old enough to be able to venture outside, the cage's opening is toward the sliding glass door, and we just open the door and the cage and out they go!! It is a good system and it works for us!!

My husband built 2 whelping boxes for me. They have a linoleum flooring on the bottom for easy cleanup. The one end has a slide out door for when the puppies get big enough to need a play and potty area. We then attach a gated area to the end for them to play in. That is resting against the couch in the picture. We can then close the door at night when they are sleeping and open when we let them out in the morning.

My Whelping Box...

Hey, so this is my whelping box I made out of advice from all the YT breeders...:D

I loved it! It was easy to clean, easy for mom and was convenient!!! The top could also be taken off for easy access.

Also, when I no longer needed it I cleaned it up, packed all my whelping supplies inside and have it ready for my next litter. :P

Here is the link to it...Good luck with your box! Congrats on the litter and kiss the momma from us :P

Hi I'm new at this we have 3 week old pups. I just moved them today from whelping box. They are now in xpen - my question is how do I get them to use pee pads?

In xpen I have puppy bed and a separate bed for mom. When should I add pee pads?

Thanks
