Our 8 mo. is in heat and we dont want her bread I'm not a breeder but my 8 mo old grand pup is comming into heat..... I need to know how long this lasts and also if diapers keep the males off her. We do NOT want her to get bread. Thanks |
The rule is one week in, one week standing, and one week out. Allow 3 weeks total before all is clear. Your best bet against an accidental breeding is to have her spayed. You be surprised at what lengths these little ones will go to to meet the call of the wild. |
Can you spay her while shes is in?? |
Cali was spayed while in heat with no problems but it was becasue they thought she had a intestinal blockage so they had to do surgery anyway. I also had a board certified surgeon doing it. But I think they prefer to wait until they are out of heat at least a month. |
You are gonna have your hand full for about 3 weeks..Keep a diaper on her and keep any males dogs away from her and she will be fine!;) |
I'm not a breeder, but Sammy had just had a heat when we got her. They made us wait 8 weeks to spay her. I would use crates. Too many stories on here of dogs jumping gates or getting tied the second the panties come off for a bath or whatever. |
Keep the boys in belly bands; keep them in separate rooms and buy yourself some earplugs because it will be noisy. |

Just so you know, the other poster is right about them breeding thru the crate. They will do it and if they do, it is going to hurt your male. Also belly bands and diapers are no good to stop them. i have seen my male on my female, belly band and all with his penis coming up over the top of the belly band. i have also seen the diapers pulled off. In fact, they can make quick work of that. the only sure way is to have her spayed and other than that, keep them both crated in separate crates at all times. i have just gone thru having two gals in heat at the same time and it was awful, considering I have two horny studs. |
Thanks for all the input..... I know we're in for it. |
