What is a good source of calium for mommy's after whelping I was trying to say CALCIUM... Hit enter too soon. Sorry I have suki on Pro Biolac she is drinking alot of it all day, She still dont want anything to eat she nibbles on chicken but not alot. Breeders do you know of some good forms of calium that I can get her to take. I tried the whelping pudding by Mardeline, But she wont eat it. I dont think she likes vanilla. Any more suggestions. |
My vet gives me "Pet Cal" tablets. I also sprinkle a little Esbiliac on the mommy's food. |
My girls always like the Esbilac. |
Pet cal tabs, cottage cheese, plain yogurt. |
i also give cottage cheese with wet puppy food in the mornings. About a tablespoon. here is another pudding recipe that she might like better. One box (small) vanilla pie/pudding mix (kind you cook), two beaten egg yolks, two cups whole milk, 1/4 cup sugar. Mix all together and cook very slowly until it thickens, let cool to room temperature then offer a few times a day. i alwayss give mine a tablespoon about twice a day. they love it. I also have tried the other and they won't eat it, but they love this one |

You guys are great. I can always count on YT for valuable information. Thanks for the receipes and also the ideas I will give them a try.. Thank you. I will let you know if I can get her to eat or drink anything. about the esbilac can I let her drink that whenever she wants it, or will too much hurt her? |
I have tried the cottage cheese and yogurt and Bailey wont eat it either. I stick a half a tums in braunswieger and she will eat it. She is being so picky right now and wont hardly eat anything but a little chicken, goats milk, pet ad and she loved the beef jerkey my husband brought home to her. It is the only thing she has eaten since she had puppies that I didnt have to hand feed her. I figured it was better than nothing. |

Can I ask when you start giving the whelping pudding? Do you give it before the puppies are born to help mom with her calcium or just after the puppies are born? Also, if you are giving crushed Pet-Cal (1/2 tablet from 30 days to whelp and 1/2 tablet 2xs a day after whelp to weaning) would you still give the whelping pudding? |
Sorry... forgot to ask if you give to puppies at weaning, how long do you continue and do you mix it with their food or just offer separately and how many times a day?? |
I have dealt with eclampsia before so my vet gives me calcium tablets,I crush them and add it to the pudding or the esbilac I give. Nice to see you posting again Mardelin have not seen you on here for awhile |
I give Tiffanie (10 to 13 lbs was her weight, she was bigger then our other Yorkies so she got 1/2 tablet.)Tums 1/2 in the am and 1/2 in the pm, she had 4 & 6 pups in her litters and never got eclampsia with either one. I also give to my puppies (1/4 of a tablet once a day in the am) and adults every day (adults get same as puppies) Our Vet said it was fine to give them Tums :) |
