Help ! my baby "Tuffie" is sick...not nursing. Some of you guys remember my London had a litter of 4 on July 26, there about to turn 2 weeks old this Thursday. My only boy "Tuffie" suddenly stop nursing (he was the biggest one ) I remember I weight him sunday and he was 14.2 o.z and I didn't notice anything wrong with him that day (but I was so sick my self with a cold) next day monday I weight them again and I notice he was down to 13.7 now he seem a little less active than the others , then today he was 13.5 and definetly weak and not nursing.......I took him immediately to my vet , but he didn't find anything wrong so he said to tube feeding will be the best:( and just wait and hope for the best. his gums are like blueish pale not the same as the others and I was concern about dehydration and ask about injecting fluids under the skin but my vet said he wouldn't recommend it and that the formula should be enough. Now how much formula per feeding should I do? my vet had sibilac but I already had an emergency pack with "Just born" ready to feed formula but the feeding instructions are way off as the one the vet had ..now I'm confused. ANY help will be greatly appreciated and please say a praying for my little one.....I'm so sad.:( |
I'm not experienced with tube feeding. I just wanted to wish you luck with the little guy, I hope you can get him back to normal. |
I do whatever the pup weighs is how many ccs I give them. |
Oh my... I will pray with you. I found this.. Hope it will help http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/B...befeeding.html |
O.k so he weights 13.5 oz lets say 13 so that means 13cc at each feeding ? and how often ? |
I can't help you, but I will pray for you. |
I do the same as above poster, 1cc per ounce. Did the vet say how often? If not, every 2 hours is what the protocol is for newborns but for 13 oz. it may be longer in between feedings. You could watch his tummy as an indicator, he may still be full from the last feeding. |
pup I would check with the vet to make sure you are giving the correct amount. I go by the belly..when it is full, I stop.. Keep us up to date...and wish I could give advise that would help. I use Nutra DROPS for these type probems also.. I did have a litter of 4..same as you, 3 girls and my little "Julian"..at two weeks he started fussing alot..he stopped nursing, he would bump his head against the nipple, but not suck..I hand fed him for two weeks and weaned him...my sweet little boy lived a long, healthy life with me...and I wish you the same..! |
Thanks to all of you for the quick replies, I just tube my little one and gave him 13cc ..he has a full tummy now. See I'm pretty sure my vet got confused himself with the directions because he said 2 teaspoons a day  , but it was more like at each feeding. that's why my formula and his were totally way off . I knew something was wrong as mine said 1/2 o.z per every 2 oz of body weight which is similar to 1cc for every oz of weight. I'm thinking to do every 4/5 hrs. but I will take that in mind and watch his tummy. Thank you guys ......I only hope this will bring my li'l one back. |
It's bad.... I don't think he will go thru the night ...he just looks worse than before. |
Tuffie I am so sorry to hear this...make sure he is warm, if not do not fed him milk. Nutra drops as Kim mentioned are very good..but if you do not have any, you can take Nutra Cal, liguidify it and give him a drop or so every few hours. Is he pooping? Rub his rear with a warm, wet cotton ball to see if he needs it. Best wishes for Tuffie... |
How sad to hear this. At this point, I'd (my house now) take her away from mom, put her back in a warming box (small shoe box with heating pad under on low), tube her when it's time and keep her warm. Be sure she's not dehydrated, if she is, she needs to see a vet asap. And never feed a chilled puppy. If no nutrical is available, a small cake frosting tube will work in a pinch for sugar/energy. |
My Tuffie Thank you girls for your advice and kind words , I can't not even say it ... MY TUFFIE IS GONEEEE |
