New Litter-1 Baby seems conjested still My Savannah just delivered her litter of 4 babies on Friday evening from 10:40 to 11:40 pm. We had 4 beautiful babies. 2 males and 2 females. My question is: One of the females seems to still be conjested, I could hear one of them when they were nursing and I realized it was her. I picked her up and tried to clear her nose alittle more but she is so wiggly and just wanted back with mom. She is nursing vigorously and it doesn't seem to be bothering her, just me. Has anyone ever had this happen? She sounds like a little kid with a snotty nose that won't clear it and keeps breathing out of it. I don't want her to end up with pneumonia because she still has fluid in her lungs or something!! I appreciate any suggestions or comments. |
4 Attachment(s) Since I am still up and it seems I may be the only one, LOL, I will post a few pictures I have taken this evening. My little one does seem better, I cannot hear as much noise. I cannot sleep as I feel I need to keep checking on both litters to make sure everyone is okay. Its worse than having a new skin baby!! Here are 4 pictures: 1st one is my tired, messy girl with her retard ear down nursing the babies. 2nd picture is the whole bunch nursing. 3rd picture you need to look real close but this baby is so hungry just after being born he is sucking on his own foot and leg! 4th picture is our littlest man - 4.0 ounces of sweetness! |
Aww, they are adorable!! Congrats on the litter!! Did you check to see if she has a cleft pallate, this could be causing the sound. Make sure she is gaining weight each day and keep a close eye on her. I know that when they are first born you suction out their nose and mouth and if that doesn't work you can sort of swing them real fast downwards holding them steady in your hand (hard to explain, easy to do) and that works pretty well. Sorry I am not much help. Hope she gets better!! |
I did suction her and swing her. She doesn't seem to be doing it now and it nursing like mad so I don't think she has a cleft palate problem. Just must have taken her a little longer to clear her nasal passages. I cannot hear the noise anymore as I can't sleep I am checking on them every 10-15 minutes. I hate to go to sleep as this is her first litter and I am always so paranoid they are going to sit on them or smother them somehow. I will get some rest tomorrow when the rest of the family can keep an eye on the litter while I rest. Thanks for the input though I appreciate it. I feel so lonely up at this time of night!! |
Hi, Congratulations, they look beautiful. Just wanted to see how you were dong. It's late/early over here in Florida and I saw this thread. I would have recommended gentle use of the bulbe syringe as you did. I don't wanna give you anything else to worry about, but do be careful with all that pretty hair of moms. Puppies have been known to strangle on it. If you don't want to cut up more (I know you cut the belly allready) you could put the rest in a soft fabric scrunchie and pull it up higher on the hip, back, shoulder. |
Shari they are beautiful!!! You sure have a house full now! I hope the girls get alone and just help each other raise their little ones. I thought 7 was a lot ..you will be busier than me!!! Know I am here and am thinking about all of you and wish I was closer so I could "babysit" while you rested. Lexie is back..we can go to bed!! |
pup How does her breathing sound when she is asleep? It is not usual for a nursing pup to sound like they have congestion...some even blow a bit of clear mucus out the noses.. |
Congratulations Shari and Savannah!!!! Another beautiful litter safely delivered!!! |
Congratulations, and I'm glad to hear the little one is doing better. |
Congrats on your new liter, how sweet:) |

Pat it did not sound that way when she was sleeping only initially while she was nursing. I have been watching them now every 15-30 minutes since they were born and it seems to have gone away. Thanks!! OMG!!! I must have been really tired look at how I spelled Congested. I haven't slept well for nights. I can't get a good nights sleep until these litters turn about 2 weeks. But I wouldn't have it any other way!! We have been blessed with lots of puppy love! |
Congrats on the new pups! |
