I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this to you but there is NO "teacup" group. all yorkies are in the toy group, they can range in weight fro 2 to 20 pounds, but they are all in the same group. The standard is up to 7 pounds, with between 4 and 7 being the best weight.

"teacup" just a marketing term that some breeders use to be be to charge more for their puppies. People who know nothing about the breed will pay more for these because they believe they are something special.

It is better to have more than one pup in a litter but when you have 5 you also have to worry about possible uterine inertia because the uterus being stretched out so much sometimes they will fail to contract.

I have a portable pen that I set up when I travel or if I need to confine Twinkles and Ollie to an area of the house. I was planning on using it when the puppies were born to keep Ollie out of the way and give Twinks and the pups their space. The thought of putting her in there now breaks my heart, as she follows me everywhere (always has), sleeps with me and I don't want her to think she is being punished by putting her in there before she has to be with her pups. (I know, I am a big woose). She is very clingy right now and wants to be right next to me. If I am in the recliner or on the couch, she has to be right next to me. I work from home, so she is used to me being around all the time. I admit, I am the perverbial over-protective grammy/mommy.

Is is normal for the temperature to be down in the morning and up at night? And do dogs lose a mucous plug like humans? I have noticed that there are several "wet spots" on the sheet where she sleeps (I have put a folded sheet on the bed on the "dog's side).?

Well, Grammy the thought of confining them before, however punishing, is that they will not seek to have their babes behind a couch when it is time. She's not going to stay with you and tell you when it's time, she'll try to seek a dark place and dig and dig. For her safetyness and those puppies, it would be best to confine her. Many of us have girls that have free reign of the house but before whelping we confine them.

But if you choose not to, just be prepared that you may not find her when the time comes. Look in closets, under beds, which are very hard for us to get under (but they love).

they have discharge at this point that is clear and like vaseline. Her temps are very average. Mine all do that down in the am up at night.

We had that happen and ours had 4 pups. Watch for the first sign that something just isnt right, if you feel uncomfortable about it dont hesitate to take her to the vet. Its better to be safe than sorry. :aimeeyork

When I put her in the whelping box and put the x-pen around it, she gets out and lies down on her pee pad. Then she cries when no one is in the room. After about an hour, I give up and let her out. I don't want her to be upset. Right now she is on the couch with her head under the pillow. I have gates up so there are limited placed the kids can go. She has not started digging at all. Just sleeps all day and night, except when she wants to eat or potty. She needs a skateboard to hold her belly off the floor. With my luck, she will have the babies in my bed in the middle of the night.......

And Ollie (the daddy) just sleeps, eats and plays - like all men. His work is done.

Most of my girl's temp goes up and down a few days before. When it goes to 97-98 it's time. (Not always the case.) Sometimes they have a gooy dark poop the day of birth. She will need to get used to her pen so she can't move her pups all over. There was a gal on here that found a few of her pups in the heat duct... ( I think that was YT) I put mine in my bedroom so they know I am there at night. She is a beauty, you'll do fine. :)
