most vets wont spay or nueter under 6 months of age due to the risks of anestetics. I would not put a baby through that . |

Lorraine, You absolutely amaze me, you always respond with what I'm thinking. Do you read my mind? But, I do know that if I sold a bitch with breeding rights, it's gonna be held onto till 7 or 8 months, and it better well be Championed and it would go for a heck of alot more than $300.00, more like Show Price. |

i just wanted to thank all of you for your imput. i thought this might be a small problem but i see even the best of you, you still get taken even with all the screening. my biggest problem would be to keep the babies til 6 months. omg, by then, it would kill me to adopt them out. i guess all i can do is more research with the vets in my area and hope for the best. my next litter wont be until next march probably so i have time. thanks again |

I think that some of the Humane Societies will neuter/spay at 4 months. Might be worth checking. |

here is a great article on what we have been disscussing....some vets use 2lbs as the limit to spay/neuter not the age www.darlenearden.com/artclespay.htm |
Thanks Lisa for the link, very interesting article. Sounds like I need to have a talk with my vet before my next litter. |
pups I have had a number of what I think LARGE champion-sired litters. One girl gave me 5, then 7.. 4 litters of 6..and several with 5.... It is very hard to keep pups until S/N time...I have raised 3 at one time from the same litter and lived to tell about it...my sanity was gone. LOL I had a litter of 5 males one time...then a week later a bitch had 4 females..NINE -pups the same age to raise. I only had a total of 3 litters the entire year. I would be dishonest if I sat here and said I intend to S/N all mine before they go..I will continue to be as careful as possible, seeking the best homes, having an agreement to S/N and pray for the best..that is all most of us can do. |

i guess the only other thing to do is when the people do not have them s/n by 6 months, call them and see what their intentions are....then if they are not going to do it, contact the other registries to advise these puppies (i guess give the owners names) were to be s/n and not to register them. |
