need help how long does labor usually go before 1st pup. my girl is 60 days today. She started breathing hard, digging & crying since midnight. Is she in labor? I'm waiting for vet to open so i can call how can i tell if she's in trouble?:( thank you |
Usually heavy breathing is one of the first signs of labor, you may even see a funny color dischsrge, but don't freak that's normal too. Call the vet just to ease your mind, but it sounds like eveythings going ok. |
thanks vet gets in @ 9:30 today i'm waiting for call back. she seems to be getting stronger contractions now. Just wondering how long this goes for? labor stages |
I would say yes she is in labor. Stage 1 can last from 6-24 hrs. My mom's temp drops to 97-98 and then I know it's time. ( not always the case ) When to call a vet 30-60 minutes of active straining without birth of a puppy 4 hrs between births with more pups expected 2 hrs of weak ineffectual labor without the birth of a pup passing dark green or bloody fluid before the birth of the first pup I'm glad you called the vet to give them a heads up. You can also google stages of labor in dogs and get more info. good luck:) |
my girls are normally in the 1st stage for about 18 hrs good luck to you |
Thanks everyone, we had first pup @ 10:00 am next pup 10:45 last one @ 11:48 Total 3 there was not 4 after all. Everything went well except for first pup was feet first and head was stuck for awhile. I freaked out and pm'd yorkierose. She was God sent I don't think I could have done this without her. She guided me and I pulled first pup out. The other two she pushed out on her own. I've been reading books and researching on different websites. For about 5 yrs now. I still don't feel like I was ready to do this alone - Once again THANK YOU!!! Yorkierose:D :D :D  :kiss3: She is doing great resting with pups right now and all pups are sucking on their own:thumbup: |
Yeah their here. Congratulations:thumbup: |
Congrats on the new litter. So happy everything turned out well. It doesn't matter how much you know or read when it happens for the first time it always freaks you out. It was so nice of yorkierose to help. I have read many times where she has helped others out. Very thoughtful. Can't wait to see pictures. We are due with 2 litters in the next week or so. Can't wait!!! |
Congrats on the new pups.....aren't they just the sweetest when they're newborn? |
:D They are the sweetest and I'm just so proud of my bebe she is such a good mommy. I was a little concerned because she is very very spoiled LOL. I wasn't sure if she would care for pups properly. She's my shadow and usually won't leave my side. But she's only gotten out of whelping box to eat and pee then she goes right back in with pups :D :D :D She hasn't tried to walk around the house. Whelping box is in my room and she's been there since she had pups. Should I let her walk around the house? will she know to go back to pups in my room? |
litter I am so glad all is well...New Yorkie Babies!!!!!! Anyone can call me any time with a whelping problem, I will try my best to figure it out...(day or night). I wish all phones had TV screens. It would be ideal if the Yorkie bitch herself had the ability to talk, most are calmer then the owner, me included..but fortunately, puppies all come from the same place, either heads or tails..LOL |
Congrats on your new babies!!!!! And YAY!!!!! YorkieRose!!!!   |
Bebe's sweeties!!! 3 Attachment(s) Here they are! - sorry took so long but I just figured put how to resize :D |
bebe's sweets! let's try this again with bigger pic |
Congratulations on the new puppies!! |
Congrats on your new firstborn puppies. I quite underdand you. It's nerver-racking when one is having pups and does not feel very experienced. I'm not experienced either but fortunately I've got a couple of yorkie breeder friends and when my girl is expecting I take them to their place so they can help me out. Well, in fact they do everything there's to do I just watch. Having somebody around or on the phone like yorkierose is invaluable to walk your through it. Well done you both. Hope to see more pics of your darlings. :animal37 Rubi and:dogsm6: Jennie |

Sorry Pat!!! She is always so kind and patient even if I keep asking same annoying question:D :thumbs up I wish she was closer to me so I could thank her personally & take her out to dinner |
oh my goodness! Just precious. congratulations. |

Congrats on the new babies..:D Yes, Pat is great. It's nice to know that some us younger breeders have someone like Pat to turn to. Hey, Pat maybe we need to set you up with a webcam. That way you can be in the room with us if we need help.. give you a birds eye view...:D |

puppies The puppies look wonderful...I was surprised to get the call from your vet asking how short to dock the tails..LOL He was very open to leaving them longer..he usually cuts half to 2/3 off he said...that is very, very short..! Thank you all for the kind words..I have met all my good friends through my Yorkies...and hope to be of any help I can offer. |
