Heat cycle question. For those who have females that only go into heat once a year, is there a way to manipulate the time of year they come into heat? |
I believe there is a medication to bring on a heat cycle. I believe it's used more for those that seldom have heat cycles. I wouldn't recommend any unnecessary medication that will interfere with the hormones. It may be inconvenient, but at least she's regular. Sorry, probably not much help. |
Females that are housed together usually have similar cycles. I wouldn't do the hormone thing, I know it sure messed me up. Roxie only heats once a year which is healthier for her since she throws such large litters. |
Thanks guys, I am not wanting it so they can come into heat more often but a way to change the time of year they do it. I would rather have babies that were ready to go in the summer than always in the winter around Thanksgiving time. |

there is a hormone shot but it is not recommended. plus, when it is given, it is usually to a bitch that is due but having trouble coming in. Not to regulate the time of year. It is harmful toy our bitch i have heard. I am like you, i wish all mine would come in at a time to whelp in just right weather. can't fly Summer, too hot. can't fly Winter, too cold. it is a dilema all breeders have unless they just sell locally which is what I am leaning more towards. |
