Yorkie just had litter! We just had a litter. However, she only had ONE a boy. And she is not interested in him at all. Any advice? |
Congrats and good luck...I have no advice but wish y'all well. Patty |
Hold her down and see if you can get him to nurse. It will get him the colostrum that he so desperately needs and it will stimulate hormones in her that may help her to feel maternal. Make sure that you really praise her for being such a good mom while he nurses. You can put something a bit sweet on him to to see if you can get her to lick him, just keep a close eye on them. |
All our thoughts and prayers are with you and your new little one. Keep helping him nurse...often. How much did he weigh at birth? You need to keep track of his inack and weight so you know that he is eating enough. Again, congratulations and best wishes. |
Congratulations! What an exciting and nerve wracking time. Hang in there. You have been given some good suggestions. Sometimes it takes a day or two for them to really kick into the mothering mode. Give her lots of calcium and keep trying to get her to nurse the pup as much as you can. If not, not only will the pup not get fed, but she will be hurting before long. Can't wait to see pictures of your new little one. |
Thank you for all your advice. He (the pup) is a really good eater. And eats all the time. She will let him nurse if I put him on her. But she looks at him like he is crazy. Today I have been making her stay while he lays near her. She just seems nervous around him. There is just know mothering from her. I hope she gets used to him soon. We are going to keep him....so he is not going anywhere! |

Congratulations. I hope mommy comes around and takes care of her pup. Good luck. |
I totally agree give them a few days. If this is her first litter this is new to her. I agree with the praise for the mommy, maybe the more you praise her for letting him nurse and give her attantion and maybe a treat I think she will be fine. Good luck and congrats ont he new baby boy...... |
Is she bathing (licking) him, she has to do that to stimulate the baby to go potty. If she isn't you'll need to do it with a warm wet cloth or cotton ball. Hoping she warms up to him. Best wishes. |
Congrats on the new baby boy. Look foward to pictures of your newest edition to your family. |
Thank you for all your great advice. She did not have a C-section. I have great news! We kept Bren (the Mom) with the puppy(we named him Billy) in a small crate all last night. (By the way our male is named Brody) She was alittle better with him last night...letting him eat and walk all over her. Well today she somehow got her mothering instinct! YEAH!!! She is now very into him and is finally licking him (for the first time). We couldnt be happer. Thanks again for everything! I am new to YT and Im very thankful you all were here for us when we needed advice! |
