first litter I am so nervous we are getting close to having our first litter and first time mom. Annie is due around the 24th we had her ultra sounded and there are four puppies for sure. I need all the advise I can get. I read that I need to feed her cottage cheese eggs how soon should I start that? I am putting her in the bathroom off my bedroom for her whelping so I am close. Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Annie's mom |

lets see....we need more information... how big is she? the sire? has she ever delivered before? any problems delivering? does she come from a line of free whelpers? do you have all of your whelping supplies together? do you know how to help in the deliver if needed? if she is doing fine with her pregnancy, i am not sure if i would offer her any cottage cheese at this time. i do after she has delivered. if you can tell us what you know, we can help you out further. there is so much to know that we cannot list everything. also, i am not sure i would place her in the bathroom....jmo but if you feel that is a good place for her, then ok. mine never whelped in the whelping box, they always try and find a dark small place to deliver. |
my biggest advise would be to keep your vets cell phone handy!!! |
first litter It is her first litter She weighs about 4.5 lbs she is at a whopping 5.3 now fat little tummy the sire is small around 3.5 lbs. I can hardly wait. Have had puppies before bigger breed dog. just nervous since she is so small. |

here is what to watch for.... if you see green fluid before any pups are born, take her to the vet if she is having contractions for 4 hours and no pups, take her to the vet if she has green fluid after a pup is born and the next one has not been delivered in two hours, take her in if she is in distress, take her in since you have delivered before, then the rest is pretty common. you have your supplies so you should be set the cottage cheese, i am not sure what others will say but i start feeding it after the puppies are born. if she gets too much calcium, then she may not produce it her self. i hope this helps good luck |
