Strange Heat Cycle, need some advice!
 
Okay, so my Lilly seems to come into heat a week after her mother now. For some reason, Petey never seems very interested in her. He did last time, but he is such a chicken that when she growled at him I thing he decided to leave her alone (I know this sounds weird, but it seems very true) any way, Lilly was in heat 2 months ago. And I think she is in heat again! I'm finding blood on the floors and she is soft and swollen again. She is also trying to mount Petey (even though I told her that isn't the way it is done!) Is it possible that she wants to have puppies so bad that she is putting her body into heat?? She wants to play mother to Bells puppies and she does a great job! :confused:

An aggressive female can ruin a unproven stud's career. That's why it's best to assist in the breeding.

Your Lilly's coming into Season so soon does sound strange, a bit too soon. Is she spotting alot or heavy bleeding? I would have her vet checked. Not, to scare you, but I worry about Pyrometria, probably isn't, if she's acting normal...but, better safe than sorry.

i just visted your website. let me ask you, how old is petey? he appears young in the photos. you state in your statement, "he did her last time", does that mean that they tied?
if he is less than a year, he may be too young mentally (which i am sure you know).
as far as the blood drops, like above, i would have her ck'd.

Petey will be two years old this month, the 27th to be exact. I meant he was interested last time she was in heat. I'm not sure if the blood is from Bell (who gave birth less then two weeks ago), or from Lilly. I know how strange this sounds that I do not know but I checked them both and I see no blood. I even used a cotton swab and nothing! :confused:

As far as Petey goes, he is proven. He had sired two litters and has two more on the way. And as Pyrometric goes, I guess its possible, but doesn't that usually occur in bitches that are older? Lilly just turned 2 in June. And she is acting very normal, nothing unusual about her.

Could it be a split heat cycle? I heard of this happening before but I don't know too much about it. You can do a search here and you should be able to find threads where they talk about it.

Thanks so much, I'm reading the thread and will do a search on the internet. I was looking before, but didn't try a "Split Heat Cycle" Thanks again for the help!;)

My Trixie did the same thing.She came into heat and I bred her and she didn't get pregnant.Well three months later she was in heat again.I bred her and she had 5 beautiful puppies in June.Unfortunetly we lost one little girl but the other 4 are doing good now.

Last time I thought she was in heat, Petey tried to mount her, but never did, She didn't want him and I didn't push it because she was under 2yrs. But this time she is mounting Petey and he isn't happy and he isn't interested either. So, I'm not sure whats going on.:rolleyes:
