Book Suggestions I am curious what books you would suggest reading to prepare/educate about breeding. I've gotten several from the library that have been good, but I'm reading a book right now called The Joy of Breeding your own Show Dog. It's been very helpful, and it got me to thinking what other great books there are out there about breeding/showing. It's written by Anne Seranne for any breed of dog, but is neat she is into Yorkies! :D I'm goint to try and make it out to a show in Aug to meet a mentor. I'm so excited, I can't wait. So, for you breeders, what books have you read that were helpful to you when you got started? |
so i know NOTHING about breeding nor will i ever... but i just wanted to clap for you for doing so much research!!! there are so many breeders who just do it because puppies are cute (a great reason to do it. but....) but i love that you are doing so much reserach and asking so many questions on here! i can't wait to hear about your first successful litter :) |
Anne's book is one of my favorites too. Another good one is the complete book or dog breeding by Dan Rice, DVM. Enjoy the show, they're great fun! |
A couple of I would recommend are: How to Buy and Raise A good Healthy Dog by Terri Shumsky, Great book, easy read. Canine Reproduction by Phyllis A. Holst, MS, D.V.M Successful Dog Breeding, by Chris Walkowicz and Bonnie Wilcox, D.V.M The Anne Seranne book is one of my favorites too. |
