Question about heat cycle??? My little girl has been in heat.. Last night was the first night that she acted interested in the male.. today she seems to care less.. My question is how many days will she actually be interested in breeding... I hope I explained this well enough... Thanks in advance for any advice you give.. Joy :yorkietal |
hi Joy it has been my experience all females are different so it all depends on your little girl I have found my females begin interest within about 5-7 days in, but the male still wants nothing to do with her until he thinks she is ready (isnt that just like a man:)... best breed times usually 9-14 days in. Best way to tell when your female is ready pet her bottom and see if she sticks her little tail and hiney in the air, so to speak, as she comes closer she'll start putting her hiney into the males face to get his attention if by chance he's not paying attention. hope this helps. |
Thanks for replying!! Kimberly; Thanks for sharing with me.. It is all so new.. That is exactly what she "was" doing last night.. Today she seems like she could care less.. I'm still hoping though.. maybe they like the mood lighting we have in the evening.. LOL  Joy |
Kim, all of my females are hussys. They flag at the drop of a hat! LOL Standing for the male, on the other hand, is a different story..Anyhow, the last female I had in heat here sparked the interest of my adolescent males but Da Man saved his energy and whatever, til the 15th day!! That is not my usual experience.. When the bloody discharge turns pink, they seem to be more interested. Do you plan to breed? If so, please find a mentor unless you are a really experienced breeder. It sounds as if you are a novice and unless this girl is over a year and had at least 2 heat cycles, please consider NOT breeding this time. Educate and research and wait for next time.. |
Thanks for the reply You are correct that I am new to the breeding part of this whole Yorkie thing.. However, I do, do my research and ask as many questions as possible. I am responsible and know that my girl is ready for a breed... this is her 3rd heat.. I would love to have a mentor but in our area I am among the very few that have this precious breed of dog.. So my mentoring comes through the internet while I continue to search in my area.. Any that I would trust live to far from me to consider but we stay in contact as much as possible but email or phone.. I know the concerns... It is my goal to be a reputable, responsible breeder in my area. Joy |
p.s. males are usually more eager to breed right after the female has urinated. He might do an act called flemen where he takes a little bit of her urine in his mouth and quiver his jaws. That helps him determine when she is receptive. Sounds like either he is waiting so he will not waste any extra energy or he hasn't learned the knack of foreplay.. |
