Still Nursing? I just got off the phone with my breeder and she said that my 9 week old pup still likes to nurse even though he's already eating solid foods. He chases his mom and tries to nurse. Is this normal? Should I be worried? |

My Lexi had 4 pups & weened them at 5 wks old - But they still followed her around to nurse about once a day up untill 8 wks old. Then all of a sudden at 9 wks no nursing at all. I even had my 15 wk old sneaking under Lexi to nurse when she saw the others nursing! |
No need for concern. While mom is drying up it's very tempting for the little ones to try to nurse. It's comfort and it's habit for them, like human babies. Mom will correct them and her milk will soon be dryed up which will eliminate the problem. |
Thanks for the replies. I learn something new everyday on this forum. :) |
I agree. Nursing at nine weeks is not a big deal. My females dry up about that time and Mom will stop him when she does not have any milk to give. |
My little girl is 4mths old now and somtimes she still trys to get a wee suck of her mummy Missy. But actually she prefers to suckel my fingers instead. She will lay on my lap and do this until she falls asleep. lol. she is so cute. |
I have had some of mine still trying to nurse at twelve weeks. At that age, it is more of a comfort thing for them. |
