It seems crazy to me that someone, anyone, would ask for something of such value. If you got a new car, would you feel obligated to "give" someone your old one? You are like me, dont want to be rude, even when the other person is being rude first.I do see how it can be very awkward. Espescially with family. You are being "put on the spot." I think you should just be honest and say, I would love for you to have one, but I cant afford to give anyone a $1500.00 gift. |
I would either say I'm sorry, but I already have homes for them, or just tell them you can't afford to give them away, and that a lot of work goes into creating a safe delivery. |

I have family members and friend to ask for discounted or free pups too. I have no problem turning them down, if I feel they would not be right for my babies. But this one blew my mind. My SNL though I should give her a big discount.. She calls me and says she is looking for one for her 10 year old daughter to breed... I told her in the first place a 10 year old has no business breeding anything. That no reputable breeder would ever sell to her. She said …well of course I’ll be helping her. I tried to explained the importance of being educated about the breed, the hard work and the pit falls of breeding. She was still adamant about getting a dog. So, I told things to look as far as getting a healthy dog ….but that I would NOT sell to her. Last I heard she bought a Male. I’m hoping that they will forget about trying to breed…but who knows. Some people you just can‘t reason with.... |

Both my Son and My neighbors wanted me to breed my two and give them a puppy. |
1 Attachment(s) Well, Here is my update... It was made some what easy for me. My Lil Peaches had ONE puppy.. Yep, just one.. and "I" kept her. Even with that my mom made me feel some guilty by "literly whining" I Want her, I Really really want her. I finally said.. Mom, she is the only pup that Peaches will have.. She had a C-section and was spayed at the same time and I didnt get the puppy for free either with all the other cost and Not to mention Peaches milk dried up and I bottle fed her thru it all and just wheening her. Here she is at 4 weeks :) |
I have had family members and friend ask for discounted or free pups too and I have gave them discounts before. But i have one brother who had ask for one for 100.00 and I had told him no. well the very next day he went out and his wife bought a different breed from a pet store for 15 hundred . I was shocked. he could not pay me for my asking price and so I cut the price to 500.00 for him. And his wife thought even that was too much, but yet went out and paid three times that amount. I guess they thought being his sister I should just give him one. so now when Im asked I just tell them No. I say I have a long list of people who have asked first. and they dont like that to well. |

OMG I have a story that takes the cake and beats them all!! I have Peeka and Daisy and i get asked all the time about puppies because of the boy girl thing to but the breeder i got Peeka from actually asked me this.... "Oh so when you have puppies your going to GIVE me one right?" GIVE being the word not buy! Not that i am breeding them but sheesh the nerve! I paid $1400.00 for Peeka and Boo together she didn't GIVE me one OMG!!!! |
^OMG was the breeder serious? Out off all people, a breeder should know that you would definitly be losing money if you just gave a pup away! |

ooopsy, just saw that you solved the problem .... disregard my response ... find out the going price in your area -- one that you feel comfortable with -- and tell them that amount ... then you will see who is serious and who is not ... be reasonable b/c you know what the going rate is for our precious Yorkies ... |
I don't think I would make a very good breeder because I would keep them all. I am so attatched to copper. I couldn't imagine, going through the whole process. knowing what I know now i would never buy from someone that wasn't protective over their babies and didn't do some seroius screening. What an awkward position to be put in by your family. i am glad that you kept your sweet little girl. |
So many family members and friends ask me if I would give them a puppy or like everyone said a significant discount. My answer to all of them is that I do not sell the my pups to people I know because so many people have asked me for one and it would be unfair to have to choose who to give one to... That always shuts them up, hehe... |

You didn't get your dogs for free, and they shouldn't expect one for free. Raising a litter of puppies is time consuming and alot of hard work. Tell them if they would like to help with daily clean-up for at least 10weeks, and pay for a vet visit for the whole litter to have their shots......then maybe you will consider a discount. |

She is a cutie...glad this situation turned around and fixed itself!!!! Congratulations on the little girl and glad Peaches is doing ok.... |
I have not even started breeding mine yet and already have a long list of people wanting one. I recently sold a tanning salon where everyone wanted a "free" tan. It amazed me that when I didn't give the tans to the extended family. They went and paid elsewhere...I say No dice! If you want it...you can pay the money just like I did. I waited over 10 years to buy one. No one handed me a discount or one for free! Maybe I am just stonehearted???? |

Thanks this is a good idea - I'm going through that right now everyone wants a discount. The only one who hasn't asked for discount is my own daughter but then again she has seen how expensive it's been. She's keeping Deeoji the boy:D YAY I'll get to see him all the time |
Kitty has had 2 litters and out of both litters I've given a puppy to family members. My step-mom got a pup out of the first litter for about $300.00 Out of Kitty's current litter my mom is taking a pup. I tried to give it to her for nothing but she insists on paying me something. My baby sister wants a pup out of this litter too and I told her no. She has 1 dog and can't afford anymore is the only reason I said no to her though. |
I remember my aunt (through marriage) wanted me to give her Gracie. My mom and I both told her she lost her mind! Since then, the only person that has asked for a free one is my mother. She wants a little girl. When I have a little girl, I WILL give her to my mother. My mother has always been there for me and is my best friend. She's given so much of herself to me (sacrificed so much)...a puppy is nothing in comparison. :) |
