A question about prices. I don't know if I can post this here but I didn't know a better place to ask. Is everyone getting the prices they are asking? And if not, how low are you willing to go. Not the number but like a fraction, say would you be willing to lower your prices by 1/3, 1/4 or what? Please answer me cause I am having a terrible time getting my asking prices and they are low. Well, girl I feel for you. Pup just do not seem to be selling to good right now. I lowered my price on the last pup I had by about a 1/4. And I was happy to do it just to get him in a good home. I sure hope things pick up because I have 3 litter due in August. I have several spoken for and I plan to keep a couple for myself. |
The market is definitely flooded right now as everyone has decided that they want to breed these little dogs. I guess if prices are forced low enough alot of the backyard breeders will close up busines, one can only hope. I have 3 gals left and the same problem. An other litter should be on it's way in August. It may get worse before it gets better. |
You have to keep in mind that right now the price of 'everything' is up...gas, groceries, utilities...life is taking more of a person's paycheck than before and there isn't too much left for extras for a lot of people. Right now kids are out of school, property taxes are due, vacations are coming up...there could be a lot that would cause people to want a breeder to lower their price. |

Why go and over populate this breed? Before you know it, yorkies will be like the labs, you will see them everywhere! |
i was just discussing with my breeder yesterday about how slow it is. she stated the summer months it is always slow. people vacationing and traveling. they don't want a new baby at this time. it should pick up just before school lets in. hang in there but like everyone one else, everyone is doing this....we just hope the people adopting these babies are really doing their homework and only go to a respectable breeder. |

Even, If you don't buy from me .. here's some thing’s (Good points) and ( red flags ) to look for so they can find a good breeder and not get taken. I've also have had calls from those who have bought a pup from someone else and asked tons of questions because the breeder did not discuss certain things about the pup with them. Which is very sad… |

LOL I try to talk their legs off to find out what they know and to cram everything I can think of into their heads. LOL Mostly I have sold to people who have already had or have another Yorkie. So far they seem pretty knowledgeable about them. I have felt pretty secure selling my babies to them. Sylvia |

Please do note that the above does not mean all breeders! :) |
We have lowered our prices by 17% on a few of our puppies. There are too many people breeding anything and everything they can get their hands on. We do ok so far though when people actually look for the quality of the dogs and not just the prices. Yep you can find a yorkie for cheap, but USUALLY your not going to end up with the look of a yorkie that meets the standards. People that know nothing about yorkies will ask us the price of our puppies and are very rude sometimes like WOW that's crazy! People will pay that for a DOG? I always say that it's up to a person how much they want to pay for furbaby and the price isn't everything - the homes must first be approved before they can go there. They are often shocked by that too! They don't see why we would just take the money and not care where the puppy goes! :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown tsk tsk |
Since my yorkies already have preapproved homes prior to the breeding and a waiting list, my price is set. The only time I negotiate (or rather don't charge) is when I have a wee one...then, I "place" it in a preapproved home that is knowledgable in taking care of a tiny. |
As a breeder I also only breed when I have 3 or 4 appoved homes for the babies to go to. I have lowered the price of a puppy only once, and it was of a puppy that I wanted in a special home and I knew the family. I have said "no" to several families that wanted one of my Yorkies for all the wrong reasons, you just have to be so careful as a breeder making sure your puppies are placed in special, loving homes. |
