Question for Breeders I was wondering how you decide what to charge for a puppy. I just bought a puppy last week after a lot of searching and I think she's just great. However, I noticed that puppies can run anywhere from $800 to $4,000. This is what I noticed from all the different people I spoke to - some professional breeders and some just regular people who have a litter or two but aren't really "experts" and I mean no offense by any of this. My own breeder had puppies that ranged in a variety of prices. I am really just curious as to why my puppy was a certain price and what it is based on. Thanks for your input. |
For me, I base my prices on the quality of the puppy. Ear set, bite, coat, structure, etc. Then the pedigree and the lines of the dog. |
I base mine on the same and also what they are selling for in the area. |
mine hopefully have a good ear set and bite. i looked very carefully reg these very things but the most important quality i was looking for other than that was the coat and stucture. not only from the parents of the babies but from the grandparents. i found a breeder who breeding stock has the most beautiful coats i have ever seen. i paid more for the "most desirable coat" (absolutely beautiful). then has vinny with a good coat but not as thick as coco's and my other girl has a "wonderful coat" but not as good as my coco. i will price them by the stucture and coat. the better the quality, the more their adoption fee will be. and of course we choose our breeders very carefully and ultimatly, health is number one |
I have 1 price for male or female |
I also price my puppies by coat and ear set, but I have also been known to price a puppy to meet a wonderful home's pocket. I do not breed to get rich, but to whelp excellent puppies that will make families happy. I gave my Mom a puppy (Sonny) when she started living alone. She went from a "old", never got out, underactive senior citizen, to a three walks a day, knows neighbors 6-10 houses away on both sides of the street, and a wonderful Mommy. So pricing a puppy is a tricky thing. |
