HELP: I'm NEW and want to breed my beautiful 5 lb. female! I am new to YorkieTalk and new to breeding. But hey, I figured this would be a great resource. I have an absolutely wonderful and beautiful female that is 5 lb. that I want to breed. Please give me advice and suggestions. Also, if you know of any worthy males to stud, let me know. I am in Raleigh, NC. Thanks! :animal36 |
What is the pedigree and where did you get your yorkie? Advice - before breeding make sure she is breed worthy and know her background. Be sure to also have all the tests run, so you know she will not pass on any bad problems. Have you had anyone evaluate her (judges or reputable well-known breeders)? Good luck in your search and be very particular with whom you breed her to. Just as you want to know all about her qualities, same goes for the stud you want to match her up to. Welcome to YT!! This is a good place to start. T. |

Great advice. I'll expand on matching her up....look at her faults, yes faults, and find a stud with a great pedigree (healthy) that has the qualities you want to fix. Next, before you breed, study, study, study.....genetics, pedigrees, breeding, caring for the dam, whelping, raising the puppies and insuring all have great nutrition.....make sure you have a good vet available to you 24x7. Find a good mentor, if you haven't already to teach you and help you through the process. |
and to add to all the wonderful advice here....make sure she is a free whelper. this is not a guarantee that she will have a smooth delivery but if you look at some of the past threads regarding whelping. you will see where members have lost their mommies and even the litter. make sure you can handle a situation like this. welcome to yt. you will love it here. |
Good Luck in whatever you decide to do with your baby after reading and studying breeding of a yorkie. I breed my two girls and I love the experience, but it is more work than anyone would ever imagine!! |
