Panting & contracting My neighbors dog is panting, contracting and nesting right now. She is in the closet. How long does this part last before she should expect the puppies to come? My friend called me for advice & I am looking to you for help. I said I would ask and call her right back. |
im sorry no one has responded..im no expert at all, i've only had one litter and she never panted at all or nested really, but it could still be a long time, especially if this is the first litter |

aww..my son met my sisters friend who has a pug named scooter and all he's said since meeting the pug puppy is "mommy, daddy i want a pig puppy", "like scooter"..he's only two but it is so cute |
Did you friend called her vet to let him know about the beginning of contractions ? Sometimes Pug girls need c-section to deliver their puppies . |

How mom is doing this morning ? |

She had one by herself just fine. But screamed bloody murder when delivering it. Then the next one was stuck with a little of it out. Melanie and her husband rushed her to the emergency vet clinic. There they told them they were over reacting and it would come on it's own. After some time it did. I think now it's 3 or 4 am. Then contractions stopped. They then gave her the Oxy stuff and one more was born. Finally at about 7 am this morning Melanie insisted they do a c-section. Two were saved but one was dead. She told them to spay her then. The momma dog is black. The daddy is fawn. Black is dominant and they were hoping that they would get a fawn puppy. Well, the little dead puppy was the fawn boy. Melanie is sick about the whole thing. Also exhausted. |
im so sorry that she had a rough delivery and that she lost a puppy |
I am so sorry about the loss of the little boy . |
Well, the momma pug is a terrible momma. She has to be held down every two hours to feed the puppies, she's not cleaning them etc. One of the smallest is having to be tube fed. It's strange how some are just not born with the motherly instinct. |
thats a shame my mom had a sheltie like that but we chalked it up to her being young, when she got pregnant. |
Well that's a little understandable. But this dog is 2 years old. Not too young I don't think. |

Sometimes dogs of these breeds suffers very much when whelping . Often mothers will reject the pups after a bad experience . |
AAHH.. That's very interesting and makes so much sense. She did suffer. Wow thanks. I learn so much hear. |

A friend of mine had to learn to tube feed all her baby pugs, because the mommy wouldn't feed them enough, etc. Vet told her it was because she had a c-section, her motherly instincts didn't kick in. He said it happens that way sometimes, though most are fine. |
Now the smallest one that was tube fed died. This goes from bad to worse! It's got me really scared now. I have yorkies due July 22! |
Babies on the way!!! Dont be scared then your baby will sense it! The circle of life is hard to understand and quite often hurts. Go in positive, dont let a bad experiance by one hinder your time of joy! Be cautious and you seem to be very educated and a great momma all you can due is arm yourself with knowledge and be prepared for what might get throw your way. Let nature takes it's course...I have a good feeling about you up coming babies...I think you will have the time of your life! Enjoy! :p My heart goes out to the passed babies....how is the remaining little one doing? |

Thank you so much for the nice words and thoughts. There are actually 4 remaining & they are doing fine as long as the momma is held down to feed every 2 hrs. |
I guess humans can be bad mommas so why cant a dog? I suppose it just happens...Did I read it right they spayed her? Maybe thats best as she obviously just doesnt get it. Poor girl had so much thrown at her....I wonder if dogs can get the post pardem blues like humans do? I know thats no joke...I had it a lil bit with my first baby...I didnt want to be left alone with her, but didnt want anyone else taking care of her either....It was the strangest thing Ive ever experianced. I couldnt sleep, eat nothing I just wanted to stare at her and make sure she was okay. Its a hard thing to admit to and only lasted 2-3 days....I wonder if momma pug will turn around and care for them?? |
Yes, they did spay her. I had postpartum depression with my third child and you're right, it's no joke! It was like a black cloud over me. I cried for days, but I never felt like harming my baby. Just felt an odd feeling of very low. Melanie did say that Blossom is starting to stay with the puppies and feed them on her own this morning. Yea |
Thats great News! I am sure Melanie is going through a lot tell her my thoughts are with her...I am sure she is a giant stress ball. I have never looked up postpartum in Doggies but I would think they could experiance it too. Isnt it hard to even think back to when you had that? Its like I knew what I was feeling was wrong, and like you I didnt wanna hurt my lil girl, I just didnt wanna do anything for her, but didnt want anyone else to either...I wanted to put her in a bubble so noone could touch her! I freaked if people go to close to her. You know how everyone always stops by after you have the baby and wants to see the new lil one...I went out of my mind....I would go take a shower and try to use the time wisely but I would sit in the shower and cry and want her ion front of me and would imagine I heard her crying...it was the wierdest thing ever. Its a very hard thing to fee up to even 15 years later!! Well keep us posted as to how momma pug is doing! |
