My Girls HATE each other! I am having a terrible problem with my 2 girls in the past couple weeks. I never liked the word BITCH, but they sure are living up to that name! It was so bad last night that my husband had to break it up and got bit in the process. Roxy my 4 yr old, who I've had since she was 7 wks old has always loved Jazzi my 2 yr old. who I brought into our home at 1yr.old. She even played nursemaid to Jazzi's puppies last Oct. They both cleaned the babies and Loved them equally. Roxy was an old pro having had previous litters. Now there are no puppies and everything was going fine. I'm just not sure what happened. Do Dogs get PMS or something? because Roxy may be getting close to going into heat. I do use the same male, my little Auggie to stud both of them could that be part of the problem? It never seemed so in the past. |
When they are coming in to heat or in heat, they definitely get "bitchy". I would keep them separated before someone gets hurt. |
I hate to say it but once it begins it will never stop...you can never leave these two unattended and unsupervised. I have a friend that is having the same problem, the only remedy she had was to put cones on their heads so they can not bite each other, last fight they drew blood bad. Another friend rehomed her little girl, the moment she brought in a new puppy the older girls would attack each other for no reason...she had to keep them in separate rooms, until she rehomed the one, it just wasnt safe and causes major havoc in the home. |
my breeder, mentor explained this to me as well. once they both go into heat, i needed to watch out for the fighting and never never leave them alone. i explained they all sleep at the foot of the bed w me and my husband. she told me i would have to crate them at night b/c they could get into a fight.. i have not had it yet but i know it is very possible. |
I've been there too ..We had small fights between 2 of my females.but then we had a really bad fight where my smaller female almost killed my larger girl. They hated each other from then on. We kept them seperated and later on rehomed one of them to my daughter.. It is so stressful. Good advice to always supervise and never leave them unattended. I hope you're girls can eventully get along again.. |
I've had them both caged since yesterday and have had to let them outside separately. Then today with a great deal of thought and planning, I gave them both a bath. Surprisingly enough it seems to be helping for now atleast. It has been really hot in Illinois the past couple of days, well into the 90s. I actually put them in the tub together. At first they were giving each other dirty looks but I had them both at my mercy and they knew it. I was just in the mood to poor ice cold water over both of them. They behaved for awhile until they were clean and dry. Then Roxy went to lay down on my bed and when Jazzi wanted to get up there the growling started. So then I grabbed Roxy B4 the cat(dog) fight broke out. I yeld at them and kicked them both off my bed and out of my room for good. I have a sore throat now but they have never seen that side of me B4. I think I scared the SH_T out of both of them... We will see how long it lasts. I would really hate to rehome one of them but I am thinking about it. If it continues I won't have much of a choice. I Love them much to much and am not going to make them spend the rest of their lives in cages. The Sad thing is I already know which one it would have to be, Jazzi. She is a Sweetheart when Roxy's not starting something with her. The sad thing is she was already rehomed to me at one year old. But Roxy's been with me the longest and was very sick with kennel cough when I first got her at 7wks old. She has a special place in my heart and she knows it. Don't get me wrong so does Jazzi, but she is younger and much much sweeter than the BITCH FROM H_LL. Jazzi could adjust easier. I just feel it would have to be her. But I'm not ready to through in the towel yet. Atleast not until they've had a few more of my Delightful Baths!;) |
Sorry! I just noticed some misspelled words.. I guess I proofread.:eyeballpc |

Yes Boys are easier in certain ways, but they also have to show other males who Rules the Kingdom by marking their territory. Let's face it if you have 2 of the same sex in any species there's always going to be a dominant one. Especially when you put one cute little member of the opposite sex in that equation. Well Heck Humans can't always handle it. That's why we live by a moral code (or atleast most of us do). :2hearts2: :boy_hug: :2hearts2: :girl: :2hearts2: :girl: :2hearts2: :hearts-xx |
I have a boy also. When my mother's boy comes to my house, Conner gets very protective of his things and wants to show Liberty (my mom's dog) who is boss. When Conner goes to my mother's house, Liberty chases Conner around to show him who is boss. When we are in neutral territory, all is well! |
Keep demonstrating that you are the pack lesder and see how it goes. I brought Teddi home 2 1/2 monthes ago and Roxie never liked her but things weren't bad. Teddi is a bit of an air head and since she likes Roxie so much, for some reason, she is always trying to get Roxie to play with her. Roxie doesn't play with anyone but her pups. Well the day that Remi (one of Roxie's daughters) went in to heat Roxie decided she'd had enough of Teddi and that killing her might be a good idea. I've had to get really tough with her and I watch them all the time but it's not easy. I won't be able to leave them alone together which will make it touch on the housing situation when I'm at work. I'm hoping it gets better when Remi is no longer in heat. |
That seems to by the problem here Jazzi is my Airhead and very Blonde and So Full of Love. Where Roxy is very smart and conservative and also won't play with anybody but her pups. I must say she's a bit of a snob. Jazzi I think is just getting sick of Roxy's Bitchy Ways and being rejected. They were all great last night though. I was home alone with them while my husband spent the night up at our daughters house for Fathers Day. They all had their baths and it helped, then I went ballistic on them. They've been good ever since and all 3 slept with me. I AM THE QUEEN! Keep your fingers crossed that it lasts awhile.:xfingers: |
Good luck to us both!!! |
YES BEST OF LUCK.. FELLOW KINGDOM RULER!!! |
First of all let me say how sad I am for you. I completely understand your pain. My two girls Chattie and Chizzie have to be separated 24/7 365. As long as there is a "baby" gate between them they are fine. They sniff noses. But if they are undivided then they fight -- rehoming one isn't an option here we just deal with keeping them seperate. Chattie is my heart :hearts-xx and Chizzie is my laughter :lol tears. We have adjusted to a seperate life and everyone is happy, healthy, and safe. Good luck to you. I hope the peace you have established is long lasting. |
Just a thought....instead of rehoming one of them, do you think spaying her would help?? I don't know about 'bitches', but it works for humans;) |
Although many of us love our animals as if they were our children we do need to remember that they are ANIMALS. Whether they are in heat or not they many times have tendencies to find a leader of the pack. The sweetest dogs can be provoked to join in a free for all while another dog attacks another. No matter how well they have gotten along in the past. It is nature. Any time you have more than 1 animal this must be a consideration. I would try getting them spayed if you are not going to breed them. If you are I would keep them separated or under extremely close supervision. I bred cocker spaniels years ago and when my last breeding pair got older and the male started to fail (losing eyesight and general aging concerns) the female and her son whom seemed to get along and love each other for all their lives would attack him. Draw blood attack him!! They would not let him eat or go in the dog bed or house. We had to separate them after 13 years together. This is natures way. They knew he was failing and were trying to show their dominance. As much as it hurts us to imagine, they are not human. Mothers will kill or weed out runts to the litter. It just is!! So be very careful or one may end up getting seriously injured or killed. I would also be very careful when trying to separate them. They sometimes do not care who gets in the way of a fight. As much as they love us and we love them. They will bite you too if need be. Best of luck!! Hope everything works out. Just be cautious. Better safe than sorry. |
Be very careful as Yorkies have been known to fight to the finish. Being the pack leader can help for sure. I have 1 " bitch" that thinks she rules the roost and bosses and picks fights. When I see her do that I put her on her back and hold her down and tell her NO ! It brings her down a notch. |
I have two females, one is spayed and the other is in heat right now. They get along great but I still get worried leaving them alone because the one that is spayed is so much bigger than Autumn. do you think they could end up fighting like that even though one is spayed? |
Asbo Hello all, back for a wee while:) Well I saw this and just had to tell you all about my wee Tara who has just turned 7. She is very much the Queen and Boss ! .....and she is neutered from age 1. When Casper, 4 and a half yrs (whole male)came along 3 years ago she was still the Boss, then last October I got Tammy, coming up 4 yrs - a full female - and she has now been named ASBO by my hubby Kenny ! It stands for ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR ORDER. She insists on scrapping with Tara the Queen. She hasn't got the better of her, but she is a wee B**** right enough ! She steals all Tara's toys and chews, even when she has her own, she now steals Tara's bed WITH POOR WEE TARA IN IT !!!! ....and drags it across the floor growling ! It becomes a right scrap with Tara watching her, and Tammy watching back, and the minute Tammy thinks Tara isn't looking or is sleeping unawares, she sneaks up and drags Tara complete with Tara's bed, (teeth on bed, not Tara) across the floor again much to Tara's barking and growling and fury !!! Tammy then shakes the bed and Tara falls out, and Tammy runs off attacking, shaking and biting the bed. If she can't get the bed, she takes the blankets from under Tara and kills the blankets ! I had assumed it was the fact that being a whole dog, Tammy isn't amused to have Tara who is older and neutered being the Boss ! THE FINAL CHAPTER IS YET TO COME ME THINKS:animal37 - but they don't draw blood thank heavens ! Tammy is just a naughty ASBO ! :littleang ......Debra, Scotland:animal-pa |
I would be very cautious also. I was talking to another breeder a few weeks ago and she had left some of hers alone together and they had fought to the death! She had called to warn me, but I never leave mine alone like that. I know better. She described the scene, pretty terrible! They tore each other troats out! Please again. be cautious.. |
