Steer Clear? I don't have a Yorkie yet but have been researching and saving to buy one. I have a friend that has a CKC male and an AKC female and whoops! the girl got pregnant. She offered me a puppy for free because she says they cannot have papers. Should I take a puppy or steer clear because of no papers? This would only be a companion, no breeding whatsoever. Thanx Ashley  |
Depends on what you are looking for. If you are only looking ofr a companion then go for it. Are they all healthy?? |
Since you don't plan to show or breed them why not? As long as they are healthy and have a good temperment. And that you really like the pup. (that is what matters too) I'd count my lucky stars that she's giving you one for free. :) Go for it! |
free It is free and if you are looking for a companion it sounds great to me. They can be registered CKC, but why bother? Pets and papers are not too important to many pet owners. Good Luck |
Heck yes, take it! If you aren't breeding or showing then it isn't a big deal. I assume you like both the parents and everyone is healthy. Sounds like you found a great deal! :p |
What a deal!! If this pup has all the characteristics you are looking for then by all means. Health, personality, gender, etc....if those all check out "yes" then you've been giving an awesome gift!! |
Mine is AKC registered. But I don't think it really matters. They are just papers. I got mine. And now I don't know what to do with them! She is my companion. My husband got her as a present and I wouldn't have known the difference at the time. I suppose the main thing to look at (since you have been wanting a yorkie) Is what the characteristics are of the parents. (ie weight, size, color) But if that doesn't matter either and all you really want is a healty yorkie and you trust your friend than I would go for it. Like you said you just want a pet. Think of all the money that you will save and will be able to save and spoil the pup with later (Trust me ... You will spoil that little baby :D ) |
sounds like great deal to me as long as there heathly :D |
I say HOW LUCKY ARE YOU? If you can get a deal like that and you know the friend as well as the dogs parents and all looks good to you who cares about papers? Unless you are going to show him or breed him papers really aren't that big of a deal to most people just looking for a companion to love. Good Luck To You..... |
As everyone else has said, if you don't plan on breeding or showing, why not? That's the only thing papers are really good for anyway |
You are lucky! I would take one if you like their looks. I think they could be CKC reg. My little guy is ckc, and I didn't even send in his puppy papers for the real ones in my name. He is just my pet, and I don't care about the papers. Good luck with him/her if you decide to take one! |
I agree with everyone else... as long as the parents are healthy and the puppies arent born with any problems and have sound temperments, then why not? I don't know how close youa re to your friend, but if there is any doubt you can always ask her to speak with her vet! BTW......Both of mine are AKC limited registrations, so I have no reason to register them. Good luck and please keep us posted! |
LUCKY YOU !!!!!! People here (Ontario) sell without papers to prevent breeding although that does not stop people from breeding dogs and getting a fair price. Heck the damn pet stores sell with out papers and people still buy those dogs. As a former Foster Mom to dogs. We would not surrender papers to new owners, because for a family pet or companion it is not required and when it comes to saving dogs it honestly is not important. Mya's former owner would not surrender her papers either. Mya is healthy and very smart. She hardly barks either. I often get ask "Does she bark at all?" She is just a happy lil girl and I am blessed to have her. |
Ashley, Like everyone has said papers are useful and needed if you are planning to show or breed. If you trust this person and the parents and pups are healthy and you are looking for a pet, why not? I wish I was that lucky, ;) .Good luck, please keep us posted what you decide. |
I have a little yorkie named Chance. I'm looking for another, to be his friend, and my companion. I think he would like a little girl better than a boy. If these are healthy pups I would like one. |
A free baby Yorkie? By all means, I would take one! ;) |
If the babies are healthy, you have no plans to show or breed, and you've been thinking about getting a Yorkie anyway, I say go for it! Use the money you were saving up to spoil your new baby! Keep us posted on what you decide :) |
Go for it! If you don't you will regret it once you start looking. Affordable yorkies are rare enough, getting one for free is a miracle! Windy |
Wow Thank you all so much for your reassurance. I wasn't sure, but now I'm going to go for it. The dogs will be ready in early August and they are healthy. Three in all 2f/1m. I will have to pay for dew claws and tails docked but other than that she's free. Thanks everybody for for their advice. Any suggestions on a cute original name for alittle girl? Thanx Ashley ;) |
Take the puppy. If it's a pet who cares if there are papers or not! |
i have some cute names for girls here goes. mia, shannon, abby, sandy, trixie, pixie, daisy, baby, pri ncess, muffin, rosie, bubbles, penny, lacey, lexie, dolly, doll, layne,lanna,anna,truffles,nugget,tiny,half-pint, patty, meg, lolly, and dandy, don't be supprised if i add more later but its late and thats all i can think of right now lol. |
if i get a girl yorkie i would name her Ginger |
Hi! I like the names Lucy or Ruby. :) |
I agree with everyone else except for one of the reasons AKC reg. papers are important. They are one way you can research if your baby would develop a difficult-to-diagnose ailment that might be genetic. I have found it helped to give me background info on my own babies aside from the ones with whom I breed. Your friend sounds very generous and is wise to keep an OOPS litter close so she can monitor them. I suspect she will decide to breed again..I am not saying this negatively just stating facts. Mixed breed suposedly "oops" litters between Jack Russell and Yorkie(who also looks like a mixed breed) is listed for $175.00... |
