... and last litter ever... ... well, it's over. Bo went into labour at 12:15 this morning, on the morning of day 60. Her contractions were irregular and pretty light for the first few hours, so I let her be. Around 3:30AM, they started getting more intense and the sac appeared. She pushed for about 30 mins before she managed to get the head out. The pup was alive (I broke the sac and aspirated the nostrils and mouth) but it was stuck there for over half an hour. She kind of stopped pushing so I couldn't help by pulling. When she finally started pushing again, I pulled gently and after a few pushes, out he came... but he was dead. A tiny little male... My daughter and I decided on the spot: that's it! We're going to the vet. We weren't taking any chances with the other two. A lot of good that did us. Her contractions never started again. They gave her shot after shot of ocytocyn... nothing. They finally did a C-section at 9AM to take out the other two pups... both dead... We also told them to take her uterus, while they were in there. They tell us she'll be fine. For this, we're immensely grateful... And yet, I am so sad... utterly totally devastated. All this, her suffering, her pain, for nothing... and I'm so tired... Never again... |
I am SO sorry! You must be devastated!!! I am glad the little mama will be okay. Hugs to you, |
I am so sorry for your loss, I am glad your little girl will be okay. Our prayers are with you. |
:angelyork :angelyork :angelyork Bo & Linda - I am so sorry for the loss of your Furbabies. So Glad to hear Bo is donig OK. |
How awful for you, my heart is breaking for you, so so sorry about your lost babys, im happy mom is ok. |
I'm so sorry you lost your litter. It's such a gamble everytime we bring a new litter into the world. I'm glad your gal is going to be okay. People who haven't bred just don't know how touch this is. Again I'm sorry for your loss. |
I am soooo soooo sorry. Sending prayers your way... |
Thank you everyone... She's finally asleep. She has one of those stupid cones over her head... she hates it. And she's walking around the house crying... and this, from a dog who NEVER cries... at first, I thought she was in pain... but I think she's looking for her babies... :( You're right, Tami... you can't know how tough this is if you haven't been through it. You know, I'm still trying to figure out what happened. The people at the hospital said when they took the two last babies out, it seemed as though they hadn't just died... maybe a day or two. And I ask myself: how could that happen? And the only thing I can think of is the Revolution product I put on her neck on June 11th... I took pains to ask the vet if it could be harmful for the babies and they checked and said no... still, I wonder. Why did she go into labor prematurely? Could it be because the pups were dead??? I guess I'll never know for sure. One thing I am sure of: I'm soooo not cut out for this. I'm not a breeder. I just wanted a family... :( I guess I'll just have to adopt to have one... |
I am so sorry about your puppies. |
I am sorry to hear about your puppies. I can imagine how devastated you must be and to see your little momma walking around and crying for her lost puppies is heartbreaking. |

I am sorry about your puppies. They can go in any day from day 59, anything before 58 is not very good. My two litters that I have now came at 64 days and 61 days. I pray heavily from day 58 up to delivery and all through delivery. And I think I hold my breath until everyone is delivered and eating. It sure feels like it afterward. Again, I am sorry. |
WOW!!! I'm very sorry!!! :( Poor mama.... hope she feels better --physically & emotionally. Truly sorry for the loss! |
I am so so sorry. (((hugs))) |
I am soo sorry to hear of your loss. I am so glad to hear your girl will be OK. It is heartbreaking to go thru and very traumatic. Sending hugs Deana  Prestigeous Yorkies:love: |
I am so sorry to hear about your pups.Hope momma is better today. I never break open a sack until they are all the way out. 1/2 hr is too long to sit with a pup half way out also. I have had them stop contracting also but pulled them out carefully(when they were already coming) It is a risky buisness breeding these little ones we take chances every time we have a litter (for the pups and momma). It is not for the weak at heart and It is part of breeding them. We lost a singleton pup and mom was very upset she cried for about a week and we felt just awful, give her lots of loving and extra attention. Our female took over a toy stuffed puppy and woudl carry it around with her, that made us feel even more awful. But she did come around ,once the hormones leave her body she will feel better. Again I am sorry and I do know how you feel. |
I am so sorry to hear about your puppies. I am glad your mom is OK, but it is so sad. I hope you and her feel better soon! :) :) |

You have the needed supplies. Just be careful when you clamp the cord, not to clamp it too close to the puppy and cut the cord outside the cord away from her body. |
Forgot to mention, if you put the heating pad in with the puppies, make sure there are several layers of towels and that the heating pad is set very low. Feel the towels from time to time to make sure they aren't too warm. I've heard of people killing their babies by having the heating pad too hot. |
I'm sooo sorry for your loss.:( I hope you all feel better soon. Just for a FYI for new breeders, I would never use frontline or any other chemical on a pregnant dog. Vets and pharmacy Co's can say it's safe but you just never know. I used Bio Spot on a 100 lb dog of mine and he has a VERY bad nervous system reaction and so did the 40 lb mix I gave at the same time. Butch shook and couldn't walk at all for 2 days. Hershey couldn't lift her tail for about 1 wk. 99% of dogs I'm sure it's fine but in mine it was not. It is supposed to stay in the skin and not go into the blood stream but it sure did on my dogs. Who knows if the frontline was responsible but that could have been a factor. I just read on my frontline box it is safe in breeding, pregnant and lactating bitches. I just don't take that chance. We all just do the best we can and it sounds like you are a wonderful pet owner and did all you could. |
Any pups yet?? Congradulations! Let us know how everything goes! I am having my 1st litter too due June 30th and I am VERY nervous! My vet said her pups were quite large so this concerns me but the vet said she should be able to deliver them on her own! I might need everyones help in the next week or so! |
Oh my, I am so sorry... how heart wrenching! I am just so relieved the momma is okay. Although my heart breaks for her loss as well as yours... Lots of hugs :ghug: |
