Lamplighter line???
 
Has anyone heard of this line? Is it Euro or American? I'm upset upon learning that a lady here in town has one of their dogs and has bred him - twice - and she's has NO idea what she's doing. I just don't understand why they would have sold her a stud from their line :confused:

What is the reason you feel this person doesn't know what she is doing?

There was an ad for a 10 wk old male Yorkie in our local newspaper yesterday that stated "Ch lines". I was curious and called to see what Champion lines this person had. She said "Lamplighter". She said that her 3.5 lb female & and her 6.5 lb male had 37 Champions between them (in their pedigree)! She told me that the Grandfather of her male was named Fonzi. She's had two litters from them! And the second one was not planned. She said that when she came back from Italy that they told her the dogs had locked up. She said she didn't know that the female could get pregnant after a C-section. :eek: I bit my tongue... but my heart was in the pit of my stomach. She also said that one person who wanted the female from this litter "wanted the pup at 5 wks but she felt she should wait for it to be weaned"!!! I just couldn't believe my ears! I couldn't believe that her Vet would have let that female bear anymore pups at 3.5 lbs! Our Vet started asking us about Mia getting spayed at the first visit. I doubt that the breeder sold this male for stud purposes when he weighs 6.5 lbs. The woman selling the male pup is very nice - and I'm sure she loves her dogs... but she doesn't have a clue on breeding. I just feel like the breeder should know what's going on. I didn't get a chance to see if the female ever got spayed. Poor baby!!!

She may have imported the dog if the lamplighter dogs are back in the pedigree. I am pretty certain that Fonzi was sold to a breeder in Europe so prehaps thats how she got that line?
It is not unheard of for a show male or a male from a show line to be 6.5 lbs thou and used for breeding.
As for the vet he/she wouldn't have any final decision on wether they spayed their female or not. He/She can give their opinion but the final decision is the owners no matter how well the vet likes it or not.
And to spay a female at the same time as a C-section is dangerous as she is more apt to bleed out. So I would only suggest that if it was a lifesaving decision, I would wait until she has had time to recoop and then have her spayed later but she should have never been bred the first time being that small. :(

Thanks, I appreciate your responses.

I agree that the female should have never been bred the first time. Poor thing! I just meant that I'm surprised the Vet didn'tadvise this lady not to breed her again or that, obviously, she could get pregnant after the C-section. I know it is up to the owner - but I think more Vets are starting to "ask" about spay/neutering where as 10+ yrs ago they just "mentioned" it and left it at that.

I bet that's where she got them then. Sad though. I doubt that the breeder would appreciate her line being bred like that - in the back yard. :(

Gosh, that is such a sad story...Why would she breed a 3.5lb female with a 6.5lb male. He's too big for her!! And she should have never been bred in the first place...

:eek: I agree with tj on this so many good lines are sold outside the us and than sold back into the us and sometimes with very little research with very little control on what happens after that:( barbra b is very respected in the ring and i am sure it is one of those out and in type things this is why show people get so upset and are so tough on where there dogs go the little girl should never have been bred at all and yes they do breed the bigger ones not all are small in the ring i have seen some nice girls right up to the 7 pound mark and still champion they are just as nice as the smaller ones
this lady needs do her homework

Ch Lamplighter Fonzi was sold to Mr. Mansuet in Belgium , before he belonged to B.A. Durrer in Canada .
