I need some help!! I have a question! My baby Bam Bam is in heat and I dont have a female so I was thinking of posting him on here for stud service ! but what are things that I need to know and do and what do I charge? someone please help me!! |
I'm sure some of the breeders will be able to give you advice about stud services, but there's a lot more to it than you think. Your stud needs to be tested for lots of things, and you really need to know his lines very well. Males don't go into heat. |
Yes I know theres alot of things I need to know and get checked thats why I'm trying to get help! so if they dont go in heat then what is it called....lol |
I'm just a little confused...why do you think he is in heat? Males don't go in heat...only females. You will definitely want him tested first and then also any female he may be studded to. Not worth the risk not to have testing done. |
OKAY! So what is it called for the male? |
I have never heard it called anything. They are males, they will do it anytime, lol. |
It isn't called anything... they don't have cycles. There's a lot that goes into studding out a male. You have to #1, make sure he is within the breed standard. Then you need to move on to having all of the appropriate testing done. Then there are contracts that you will need between you and the owner of the dam. How well do you know his lines? That's something else you really need to consider. It's not as easy as just putting a male with a female and having puppies. |
OKAY Okay!! well thanks alot now I know!!...lol..its because hes just hummping everything and he starts chewing on thing and he gets wild!!...lol:p |
What are lines? |
only thing i have to say is it is against the rules to post for stud service. you will hear much more on this from others i am sure. you don't know what lines are? |
Lines meaning whats in the dog pedigree. Cut and pasted to help explain.. A pedigree is a dog's family tree. It lists the registered names of the dog's parents, grandparents, great-grandparents (etc.) of the dog - most printed pedigrees go to 4 or 5 generations. Other information may or may not be included, such as date of birth, color, registration number, call name, or titles earned. Titles earned are almost always included - Championship, Sire or Dam of Merit, Obedience or Agility titles. A printed pedigree is not needed to show a dog - to be eligible for an AKC show, a dog must be registered, so the parents (and thus the entire pedigree) are already on file. Pedigrees are useful when planning a breeding program. Knowing your dog's ancestry, and the ancestry of the dog you are considering breeding to, is necessary to help you determine how closely related the dogs are. Sometimes dogs that seem unrelated in the first few generations end up with the same dog numerous times in the fourth or fifth. Knowing how many Champions or other title-holders are in a dog's pedigree will tell you about the line, and it's tendency to meet the breed standard in form or function. Specific information about the ancestors in your dog's pedigree is especially helpful (and sometimes hard to come by). Knowing when the dogs died, and of what, can help you make decisions on health standards. Temperament and health are also vital factors in a breeding decision. Knowing the history of these things in both dogs' lines can make the difference between a good breeding and a great one. A pictorial pedigree can sometimes be especially helpful - while there's no guarantee that a dog will sire puppies that look like him, consistency of type throughout a pedigree will increase your chances of getting that type. Seeing other offspring of the dog you're looking at - puppies and adults - can be helpful, too. Many dogs who are lacking in a certain quality (say, rear angulation) produce pups who possess the quality. The best breeding results in a puppy that is better than his parents, in keeping with the goal of continually improving the breed. |
No its my first Yorkie or should I say first pet and Im just learning Im not going to post him now that you say that Im probley not even going to breed him I just want to know for the future!! so please everyone get off my back Im a beginner with yorkies!! I dont know much |
THANK YOU now I know!! |
It's not that we're "on your back". It's just that so many people breed irresponsibly and then they have problems and it puts the dogs in jeopardy. We're just trying to educate! |
stud education 101 he needs to be within the breed stardard he needs to be tested for defects he needs to be at least 1 1/2 years of age you need to have a contract the bitch needs to be in season the bitch needs to be with in the standard the bitch needs to be tested for defects and std's the bitch should be in 2nd heat or 18 months old you need to know both lines you need to know what to do when they tie, get vicious, try to run while being tied. you need to know about the gestation period....when and what happens you need to know about whelping you need to know when to look at the bitch and tell if she is in standing heat you need to know what to do if the bitch does not get pregnant (should be in contact) there is sooooo much more to know but this is just the beginning. best for you to find a mentor and assist in some studding and whelping read books |
